Since posted this, I figured it was time to get off my ass and post the color version.
I colored this for Chris's third sketchbook this year that he was selling at SDCC. It was amazingly fun to color and fun discussing with him in depth on how to go about this. He drew the graffiti on another sheet of paper, gray toned it, and I did some texture over the colors and this is what came out.
I kinda love it. I won't lie.

I love it! The texture is spot on to spray paint.

Love the colors but the image kind of comes off flat to me. I can't really make out the shading that would give the piece a more 3D look. It might be my eyes or monitor though.

You'd be amazed at how many layers of shadowing I did on this piece to make it rounder. The problem was that when it became more apparent that it was shadowed, it muddied up the grafitti to a point where it wasn't very appealing to look at so I scaled back a bit. If you took the multiply layer with the shadows for the edges of the figure and under the arm, it's very noticeable how much shadow is added but the denseness and texture of the graffiti obscures it quite a bit.
