Levied Freemen:

In a land as harsh as Yaztheria, prone to conflict and full of deadly creatures, being able to fight is a skill near all yazie acquire very early on. Every yazie man and woman practices at least semi-regularly, ensuring that when it comes to standards of medieval settings they are pretty good at fighting as individual.

During times of emergency when no military force can be mustered, the local civilians are levied for defense even form stopgap armies.

The basic set up for a levy, having a weapon, shield, and helmet if they can afford it. The wealthiest of levied freemen will also have armor such as gambeson or leather, but typically this is not as common. They aren't terrible at fighting as practicing with a weapon is sorta required meaning most know what they are doing. But they lack the discipline, training, and personal combat refinement that most soldiers have meaning that while they can hold their own fairly well they aren't to be expected to hold for long against someone better equipped, trained, or physical adept than them

In short, they are useful in a pinch and can hold their ground well even against trained soldiers....buuuut dont expect them to hold for long, and against highly skilled warriors they are going to do nothing more than act as meat shields.
