My weapon? … I don’t really hav- ...oh, wait … you mean my staff here? Well I suppose it could be one, depending on how it’s used. It’s just the same old staff I used back home when tending to the herd. I used to have a small knife with me, but I had to leave that behind with my clan. Metal tools are hard to come by there and I assumed I would not have much need for such a thing here at the academy.

Mostly I would use my staff to prod the Mareep to get them moving in the direction I need them to be moving in. There was that one time I tried to ward of some thieves by swinging my staff around at them. That experience was not a pleasant one and I only stand here before you today because my brothers and sisters heard all the commotion I was causing and came to ward off the intruders. Needless to say I have not had very good experience at physically defending myself in a confrontation. I believe this is because I was the smallest of my birth group. Whatever the case may be, in the end all I can really do is to make do with what gifts I have, even if it takes me a bit longer than others.

Having since mentioned 'gifts', I will explain myself. The very reason why I am here at this prestigious academy. Not long ago, I discovered that I have the ability to use magic. I still lack a complete understanding of this art, so I have thus far only used what arcane gifts I have in a defensive manner. Even then, the effects are limited in range and impact. Grass Knot and Thunder Wave are the only two arcane gifts I have some degree of proficiency in. One to slow things down and the other to stop them cold ... hopefully. I've tried practicing a bit on how to use Ice Beam and Flame Wheel more efficiently, but I have a great deal of difficulty in focusing and maintaining the energies required to properly use those abilities.

There is an approaching danger of some kind but they don't know you are there. Your source of magic is limited and can trigger alarms. Do you risk it?

Well, I wish I could be more elaborate in my method of approach to this, but I usually avoid any form of confrontation. I just don’t have the skills to fare well in that sort of situation. But seeing as how this ‘entity’ is unaware of my presence, why not stay hidden and use that to some degree in my favor. Something my brothers usually do when hunting for wild game and warding off unwanted guests is setting up traps and snares. While I never really learned how they did it with conventional supplies, I could attempt to use Grass Knot from various hiding spots to slow down their approach. It’s really about the only thing I have the most experience using in such a manner. Although if I am discovered, I would give them a good blast of Thunder Wave and pray to the divines that it sticks.
