Description Tutorial showing 4 ways of preparing a digital line-art for colouring.

ARTIST'S COMMENTS

I am sure this is very obvious to most people out there, but many still seem to get their paint buckets, magic wands or erasers out when colouring line-arts! This tutorial shows the process of making any line-art appear on a transparent layer, which will allow you to add colour without ruining the lines.

The steps shown were all done in Photoshop CS2, but I'm sure at least one of the techniques will work in other programs such as GIMP or Painter as long as you make a few changes. Please feel free to ask if you have any queries about any of the techniques or steps.

Du kan svenska eller hur?
Så skriver på svenska så fattar jag bättre,när jag ska färglägga hästen,så kmr det änndå massa färg utanför linearten ,hur gör jag så att detta inte händer?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cerona In reply to Tquales [2012-11-11 18:33:09 +0000 UTC]

Jag vet inte riktigt hur du menar, men det bästa sättet är att färglägga med en vanlig brush på ett lager under linearten, och sen bara gå runt med en eraser och ta bort den färg som hamnat utanför linjerna.

If you check the comments below, ~Sassykatt1 has checked the compatability/names for GIMP for all the 4 different ways

Thank you so much for this tutorial, this helped me so much!

For months now I've been struggling with how to color in a lineart that had a white, or any kind of background (I use gimp). But now after reading this tutorial, I can now color the lineart nicely without ruining anything. Thank you so much again! :3

i cant figure out how to make a layer below the original...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cerona In reply to shilohrox [2012-08-24 23:17:55 +0000 UTC]

The new layer will appear above the layer that you are currently on, so if you highlight the layer that's on the top of the layer stack and click to add a new, this will be on top. You can then drag the newly created layer to wherever you want in the layer panel

I'm so glad it helped you Sometimes even the most obvious solutions can be quite tricky to think of! Personally, I only knew about multiply before making this tutorial, since I usually never use images with an already existing background, so even I learnt something new by doing this
