some of my favorite places are like this - quiet, dark, and green. There's also a story in here about a boy who can talk to animals, and a magical fish, but I'm not much of a storyteller I'll just stick to the visuals

thanks for your comments. Yes, that rear foot has been an issue - I've played around with it a bit and nothing looks quite right. I see what you mean about the background, will look into defining it some more, as well as tweaking the composition slightly. Thanks for taking the time to look and write a critique on this!

Incredible artwork! The anatomy of the man is so perfect and realistic that when I saw the thumbnail of this I thought it was a photomanipulation using a stock image of someone. What I really enjoy is the way the fish and the man/elf are looking at each others, it's really a deep look, as if there's a link between the two. I wouldn't change a single thing in this work, everything seems great to me, the pose of the men, the pose of the fish and even the transparency of the water. Even the background that's somehow abstract, or at least less realistic then the rest seems to fit well, as it helps not to get distracted by details that aren't necessary. If you accept my humble opinion, I'd leave this work the way it is now!

thanks! I do 3D lighting (as my day job) so I think the things I deal with at work spill over into what I paint, as I'm always thinking about lighting and color

I do 3d for broadcast TV. The company I work for legally owns all the the work I do for them, so I would need special permission to show it online. If you lived in the States I could tell you what channels to watch
We use Maya and the mental ray renderer for most of our work. A lot of it is very quick turnaround, so we can't go crazy with render times, but we do ambient occlusion passes for most everything, sometimes GI based setups, sometimes regular old lighting setups (my favorite kind
