I have seen that you are from Germany, so I will write the following text in German

don't be painting the natives in a light that could make them seem to much as victims and the spaniards to much like "murderous white men who know not what they do".
Everyone was guilty, everyone was innocent.

True, but then again their cities were destroyed, culture nearly lost to the ages, and pretty much their standing in the modern world is next to none with only a two million left and declining.
Victim or not, they suffered the most and because of this they're almost gone with their culture becoming more and more of a fad to the foreigners who forced them from their lands and gave them the only options of life by abdoning their ways for the next few centuries or death.
The Spaniards came to their land and killed them, not the other way around

Not bad! It's remarkable the differences between the european Cortes, with a metal armor and on horse, and the emperor Montezuma, with a "primitive" wearing and supported by his men.

Finally - Cortez and Moctezuma or Montezuma. I have been searching for a picture of them. Now for Pizzaro and Athualpa.

"History would be something extraordinary, if only it were true."
Leo Tolstoy.
The emperor Moctezuma and Cortez face to face but for some reason
"Montezuma" is how many call to him because as Americans call it.
Aztec is the nickname used by the neighbors of the Mexica Tribe ,
but they called themselves Mexica.
The correct pronunciation of the Nahuatl in spanish are Meshico but
the Criollos in the New Spain (Today Mexico) , White Rebels take the name
of the tribe who opposed more to the spanish conquest to have the sympathy of the Indians and mestizos in the independence war vs Spain but again with a wrong pronunciation in Castilian (Spanish) Meshico pass to be Mexico , the fail written interpretation of nahuatl name.
Mexico is today the official and correct name in Mexico but continues to be writing
Mejico in Spain whit the correct use of the phonetic and writing in Castillan (spanish)
Cortes and Montezuma were found in a driveway respectfully and all Spanish were received with hospitality in the city , in their domains Moctezuma was taken as prisoner and puppet by Cortez to control the people because Spanish were less than 300 men , the conquerors needed the alliance of all tribes hostile to the Aztecs to defeat this empire but his escape from the city was difficult when Moctezuma dies , while trying to escape at night occurred the "sad night" for Cortez with heavy casualties because many Spanish Conquerors fleeing loading gold , could not fight well and some were drowned in the lake but eventually the Spanish survivors and their allies besieged the city , even Cortez order the shipbuilding of 3 boats on the lake with cannons for this siege and destroyed the Aztec aqueduct , finally the authentic Aztec people were exterminated in the battle , diseases and vengeance of the other Indians but in modern Mexico defends the mythology and insists on calling Aztecs survivors to all Slave or friendly tribes of the close lands of empire.
The truth is that the Tlascalans are the real root of mestizaje with Spain ,
Tlascalans , "Tlaxcaltecas" was the biggest army who joined to Cortez to destroy Mexico City.
Talk of the comon cannibalism acts in Aztec Culture is also complicated with modern Mexicans because after independence the Mexican nationalism was formed taking the Aztecs as Heroic roots of the new Country and Spanish pass to be the bad guys in all Mexican History , even if modern Mexicans are more connected with them and not with the real Aztecs.
Malinche called Dona Marina by Cortez was not Aztec and his tribe was hostile to them
for this reason she helped to Cortez but in Modern Mexico "Malinche" are a traitor!
From the North American Indians lands (Ex New Spain Territory) into the territories of the Mayan empire and Patagonian lands there were multiple Indian nations they made wars , they took slaves and finally they were allied with the Europeans to continue fighting each other.
Aztecs , Mayans and Incas were empires for subject to other Indians.
in fact hated by many cultures , the alliance with Spanish Troops , artillery and cavalry is the true History , the Mayan empire was divided and had wars between their cities before to the Spanish Conquerors the decay was cultural and ecological in this case everything was more simple for the Spanish Empire.

OK, I have no idea how in the world you can do something this cool using a digital program. I can barely get photoshop to open, let alone draw something so complex and captivating. I really like the rich colors that you've used. I forget the Aztec king's name, but I like the "what the crap?" expression on his face. And I like the expression on the blond-bearded Spaniard behind Cortes - he's totally thinking, "We are so about to pwn your butt." Very cool.

It´s a wonderful representation between Spanish kingdom and Azteca empire, which it had a big impact with Cortés´s image, above all with his physical features, that they inmediately associated to Quetzalcoatl or Kukulkan.
Nice light effects and picture ^^
Congratulations!!

I love the contrasts between the culturally colourful Aztecs and the dullness of the Spanish that signifies their oppression and tyranny.

Mr. Toht, you are showing your ignorance. The Aztec Empire was utterly murderous. Other tribes and nations in Mexico initially supported the Spanish because the Aztecs had treated them so horribly. That does not mean the Spanish committed no atrocities, because they did, but claiming the Aztecs are "the good guys" and the Spanish "the bad guys" is an absurd oversimplification that does not reflect reality.

I've come to realise conflict between settlers and natives for the mess it really is. One side was as capable of hurting each other as the other and now it's too late to do anything about that. All we can do these days is wake up and show more awareness between each other in representation and coexistence.
