I don't actually have a set approach but here's how I did this particular portrait study.
For my next studies, I think I might play around with settings lights and values first rather than sketching lines.

2: Shading to get a better rendering of the face | Adding highlights
3: Cool vs warm gradient | Darkening the lineart
4: Getting a better understanding of where the light is coming from | Hard highlights
5: Blendy blendy - highlights - enhancing light source | Overlay layer to make it "glow"
