For those of you who are struggling with step 3, I will try to explain how to do it (I spent at least 30 minutes losing my mind over it.) I just created an account specifically to try to explain a step that seems possible only by magic.

In step three we add four rings to the dangling sets of two rings (D). When adding the new rings to the D rings, the new ring must be BETWEEN the rings in the first row (The rings which the Dangling rings are looped through.) The four rings at the top in picture 3 are actually sitting in between the two rings directly below it (One in front of the new ring, one behind the new ring), with the D rings connected to the new ring below that.

This is very hard to explain. Sorry! Good luck guys!

Took me a while to get it down but it worked beautifully after I did.

I'm sorry but I tried this weave and had a mind melt down and got as far as #2. I'm not understanding #3 on the printable archive. Please help me. Thank You for your time.

It took me a while to figure it out. There are 4 extra rings you need to use I wish I could explain it but it to you, but I'm not sure how...

Hinting, are we? Seeing what you did with the snowflake bracelet gives me an idea for a much larger project, too.

very nice, I like the look of it. does it hold its shape well? as in could it be used as a pendant?

also one tip for the tut: aspect ratio, or ring sizes would be nice

It holds its shape well depending on the A.R. The ring size I used in my Snowflakes Bracelet makes em reeeeeal tight. This one at 1/4" 16g AA is a little loose. You can tighten it up by adding extra links in the 4 corners.

You are AWESOME! I saw this and a myriad of ideas came to mind and then to find out you want others to get creative with it... I am excited. I am going to go make something, I will send ya the link when I get it done. Thanks so much!

you're welcome. Yeah, I really only work with 2 or 3 sizes, so I forget other people use A.R. these are 1/4" 16g AA BTW

Ooo, thanks! I only do AR calculations when I need to, or to figure out the "math" end of maile. Normally I just go by ring size.

Tar-Vanimelde In reply to crazed-fangirl [2007-11-29 05:29:30 +0000 UTC]

is there a set way to figure out what ARs work for a given/new weave? or is it just trial and error based on the dimensions of the rings used? if only there as an algorithm...

I don't enjoy math and I have a lot of rings, so I like to do trial and error.

Oh, OK. It is simpler than I thought it would be. Are you going to make more things with that weave?

chainmaille In reply to Flocculus [2007-11-15 03:21:58 +0000 UTC]

maybe. My wrists have been bothering me lately, so not much for awhile. I hope other people do, that's why I'm posting this.
