Story has been added!

Puddle didn't do half bad for her first season! She didn't run in very many shows since honestly my personal system does need a bit of tweaking --the local shows are a bit.. dangerous at this point, lots of crashes and falls, so I need to balance it back out--but she had some really hard competition, and she seemed to do consistently well in the jump offs when it came down to her times. Seems like something of a speed demon this one, so I'm eager to see how she does next season for us. She's got two more seasons to cycle before we get her first foal out of her.

 --Puddle's Story-- [Next]

One thing that Emil did have to give Puddle was that the mare had heart. The minute that she went nose to nose with the ghost of the clock, she was off like a shot, heaving like a small freight train and barreling over the jumps with a magnetizing sense of explosive, frenetic energy. She was easier to corral and direct in the home arena --as most horses were, given the sheer number of distractions present at the show grounds--but the man did have to say, he liked her sense of good old, infectious, unrelenting enthusiasm.

Her owner had hired a rider to take her on mid-way through her first season. Sure, he had enough experience under his belt to ride the thoroughbred over a course, but he felt like she had a lot of potential and would do better under another's seat. Jasmine Sides had stepped in and taken over shortly before her third show, and while Puddle's placings weren't terribly impressive, there was something he really had to say that he admired about the mare's sense of try and style. She was certainly entertaining to watch soar over the jumps with those long legs coiled like springs and her braided tail flagging. Her scope --when she really threw herself into it--was insane, even overkill, but whether he was on the ground or in the saddle, he enjoyed watching her. More importantly, it was obvious that the mare loved jumping.

While she didn't really excel at running a clean course, Emil had to hand it to her --Puddle was fast. She seemed to know when it came down to the crunch, and she pulled good time. With so much try and such a gleaming personality bursting through the seams of her character, he was eager to see where she would go.

I'd love to know more about how you calculate results (time, faults etc) as this is a. super cool and b. have been planning to give some of my jumpers careers like this!

on topic: It's okay Puddle, you can only go up from here I have plenty a horse that started from multiple DNFs haha.

I created my system by hand, and it's still changing and refining, but essentially it's the system that inspired the Show Circuit group when it was still running. But basically, I have a list for Local thru National horses that rolls either a clear, knock, drop, refusal, or fall for every jump. It used to be 0-50, but there were so many crash and smash accidents at the Local shows that I had to raise it to 0-75, haha. My event documents look like this ( docs.google.com/document/d/1Wp… ). I roll for a random number of ghost or 'pool' horses to participate alongside my horse, then I roll for the number of jumps --which includes the time range for course--and then I get to rolling! It can take a while at first, but when you get the hang of it, it gets much easier.

If you want, I can include some of your horses in my lineups to give them a chance at some show experience. I do it for buddies of mine, since I'm just running against substitute horses anyway. Do you have anybody that you want me to include?

Puddle's a trainwreck LOL and that's why we love her

regrettably I never showed as much as I wanted to with Show Circuit, but I found the system intriguing. Thank you for taking the time to explain your methods though, It's appreciated! I'm always fascinated by other people's personal systems.

Do have a couple of followup questions. How do you use the number range (0-75) to calculate if the horse jumps clear or ends up with penalties/fall? And most importantly how do you end up calculating the final times? (with or without time faults - I've been using the FEI 1pt/4 seconds over). Everything else I've slowly been able to figure out with research, but currently stumped with those bahaha.

;; that would be so amazing. I currently don't have a ton of active (aka uploaded) jumpers atm but any of these guys would be up for grabs - Columbia  and Henry  (better ref pending) would probably be best suited for the local level as they are just getting started. If for whatever reason you need a top-level horse, SBS Little Miss Muffet BEE  competes at GP level (1.5m+ etc). Thank you so much

Trainwrecks are the absolute best, shhh. DON'T LET ANYONE TELL YOU OTHERWISE, PUDS

Of course! I'm always happy to share. My biggest frustration with HARPG in the beginning was that to show a horse was so.. exhausting. It oftentimes seemed more stress than it was worth given that you had to do one entry per show, and most entries are pitted against your own gallery. I love DARPG's titling system far better, where you do a set of 'title' images per discipline to master it, and player shows are entirely optional. I wanted to create something sort of like that, but more involved for HARPG, and what's the good in creating something cool if you can't share it?

My Local calculator is as follows...

1-49: Clear

50-59: Knock

60-67: DROP

68-73: REFUSE

74-75: FALL

If I'm running a show that has over 10 jumps, I do give a 'grace drop', where every horse running at the Local level has the option to take one free drop as opposed to a fall or a refusal. That number generator really likes rolling 68-75, even if it doesn't seem like a lot of numbers, haha. I have a separate list for calculating times, depending on how many jumps there are. One refusal is five seconds tacked onto the total rolled time, and two refusals result in a DQ. If they go over the time limit, that's a DQ too.

Also, for time faults, I count 1 second per 1 fault. So a horse that runs a single refusal pitted against a horse that runs a single drop would be 5 Faults verses 4 Faults. I usually don't count knocks, but in the higher level competitions, I'll occasionally roll to run rounds where touches count as faults too.

And no problem! Anytime!! I'll run these guys during Puddle's 7 Y/O season! She's doing a combination of Local and Regional shows right now, and I'll also throw them into Punch's 6 Y/O season, where he's running entirely Local. All of my documents should be accessible to the public through that [0 Y/O Season P.1/1] link in bold and underlined up top. And then in that master document, each show itself is clickable in bright blue, so you can see how they ran!
