Love the organic, three-dimensional look to it. It could be alive, or some kind of mineral formation. Nice color contrast with the yellows and the blacks, really cool gradient work there. The lighting is also superb and really helps contribute to that "environment" look that is really strong in so many of your fractals. With that, the lower gamma is really interesting because it offers all these opportunities for highlighting the really striking whorls of texture and underlying, darker "rock"-like stuff. The entire fractal shimmers rather pleasantly. The texture in the background against the rich sienna is a really nice touch. Overall there's a kind of threatening, almost alien feel to the entire piece, but all the intricate details really captivate your attention and make you want to look closer!

I don't think it was intentional, but it looks very realistic, like macrophotography (opposed to your usual cosmic photography).
