Description It only shows up in temperatures so frigid that your breath freezes before it has left your mouth, and can be seen circling and diving straight, and fearlessly, into the treacherous Aethys Mountains.  Some believe that it died in a tragic accident inside of the mountains, while others wonder if it's searching for something they contain...

The sense of movement in all your pictures is incredible!

Thank you  Motion and energy are a personal requirement I have in nearly all of my artwork; they can captivate the eye in multiple levels of the artwork, and force viewers to engage with the scene more strongly in my opinion.  Perhaps the energy is a bit chaotic, but my username has the word "chaos" for a reason XD

Thank you

Mmm, my own imagination prefers more glowy energy XD  Then again, I wouldn't have created and finished this if it didn't spark my own imagination in some way!

Your digital art looks like traditional work.. I don't get it.

It doesn't have to make sense, either!  Honestly, it's more constructive for me to explore  than to try to understand why fractals can look so much like traditional artwork.  Nonetheless, I consider it very much a complement when people mistake what I do for traditional artwork

Fractals can represent natural things (space, terrain, rock texture, granite, etc), can have film-grain effects, can be super geometric and pattern-focused, and even textured and colored such that it looks like a traditional piece of artwork.  As with any form of artwork, the limits to what it can do are defined by those who push the boundaries

Lol, it's just awesome what you can do. It can be a lot more fun to explore than to try to understand, I know. And I know what you mean about the mistakes. I almost cried when someone mistook my speed paint of a cloud as a photograph.

How do you create these fractals? I've seen them a lot but I've never been told how they were made.

I see here waves hitting on the rocks. I thought that It's an oil paint!  Great!

Thank you  The style does look like oil paint, and I love working with color and texture in this way - I take it as a great complement to hear this!

I'm really impressed with the texturing in this piece; there's a smoothness that makes it seem practically painted upon a canvas. Beautiful work!

That's a trademark style of mine though

When I say that I use absurdly low amounts of blur in places, this is part of it - I have some 0.0033333 blurs on some of the transforms to "soften up the edges" or something XD It's really necessary to go down that low sometimes; the underlying structure itself is messy and has nice hard edges, but that (with reasonable gamma - this is 12 or something?) requires blur for depth.  It's also using an off-white background (not black!) as well, so that might make it seem slightly softer too.

Many thanks!  This is a style that I enjoy working with, and I love the potential for texture, value balancing, and color balancing because it requires a lot of solid structure - unlike the space art I work with, which sometimes feel is only just enough to bind clouds and shapes together...

It's a style I quite enjoy working with  Earlier derivatives of it (focused more on cloudy shapes) were what got me started with abstract fractals in the first place, and I'll always work on one of these from time to time because they're just so fun!

Hmmm,  I can make out some figure-like shapes in the patches of darkness near the center, but I'd like to know what you're referring to!

ShockSurge In reply to ChaosFissure [2016-01-13 19:28:15 +0000 UTC]

The white strokes come together and form to me what looks like a grieving demon. Two horns coming out the top of their head and two coming out the side. Almost like Ram horns. I say grieving or even sad because of the eyes, or what look to me like eyes, and how they are positioned. Almost like he's looking down.

Ahhh, interesting!  So you see a face, the left eye, and a mouth.  From what I'm seeing, it kinda looks like a skull! I didn't even see that; thanks for pointing it out

Awesome work again! It really has a look of a traditional oil painting in its textures.

Thank you!  I absolutely love working with textures like this; it's a novel and "messy" aesthetic, but it can contain so much energy!
