Description A maquette of my sister =fyuvix 's character, Cleo . The drawings are her actual drawings. Sculpted with Super Sculpey, and it took forever. XD More'n 30 hours, that.

Cleo's a singer, 's why she's got a mic.

Super Sculpey on armature wire, approx 8" tall.

EDIT: And nope, I'm not painting it. It's for my sis, and she doesn't want it colored. Plus, maquettes don't usually get colored.

Is Armature wire oven safe??

Yup, none of it is exposed once it's been covered by clay. It has a far higher melting point than the temperature needed to bake sculpey, so it's all good.

Hoooooow? Hoooooow is this possible!?

I tried my hand at sculpty once and it was the hardest thing to manipulate ever! It took forever just to mold it into a ball D:. You ma'am are simply amazing, that is the only explanation I have.

-goes back to her kiln clay-

Well, are you sure your Sculpey wasn't too dried out? :< Good sculpey you can press firmly with your finger and get a good indentation. If you can't poke a dent into it, it's prolly too old. They also have Sculpey Softener that you can get, but it's basically a little bottle of oil that you have to mix with all the hard stuff, so it's still a pain. XD

I actually haven't tried using kiln clay, that could be fun. 83 But I don't have a kiln to fire it with, so there goes that idea. XD

Yeah I think it's too old. Because I had to really work it to get it into just a ball :/.

Kiln clay is a lotta fun! It's real messy though cause it has to stay wet/damp and if it stays damp for too long, it gets the texture of soggy bread . It's still usable, you just have to knead it on this. . .plaster board (I forgot what it's called really) to get some of the moisture out. You dont really need a kiln to use the clay :3. It air dries. The only thing that you would need the kiln for is if you wanted to use some glazes, but you can just use acrylic paint too if you wanted .

Oh, didn't know you could let it air dry! D: Neato!

Yep you sure can! It's a lil more brittle than if you fired it, but it's still okay

Amazing!

Would you ever consider doing a character maquette for a commission? If so, how much would your rates be?

Feel free to contact me via my page info if you're not comfy posting that info here.

ChaosKomori In reply to omniferous [2010-03-08 06:05:48 +0000 UTC]

I've thought about it, but I think it might be a bad idea to take sculpt commissions, simply because it takes me far too long to do one. This one took me more than 30 hours, and it was in a style that I was very familiar with, and it was a very simple character. So for this maquette, that would mean it'd be $300. And then for more complex characters, the price would just increase from there.

So I think if I were to ever sell any sculpts, I'd probably sculpt something first, then sell it to whomever seems interested.

Thanks! I super appreciate all the hard work you put into this! This turned out freakin aweseome. I don't know how you manage to think things into 3Dness, especially the great job on the hair. I love how you've built this, every shape and form so on-model and yet somehow better. I really love how this turned out. Thanks so much again for everything! The feet are so entirely cute! Anyway, you put a lot of hard work into it and it means a lot to me. Thanks for everything, man TnT

ChaosKomori In reply to Lord-Hayati [2010-03-04 04:17:57 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I don't color these. :3 This is a maquette like the ones they make for animated films, and they don't actually get colored.

Plus, it'd be a pain to color, haha. XD

MFruitProductionsLTD In reply to ChaosKomori [2010-03-04 04:40:26 +0000 UTC]

You know, whether you color it or not is up to you, but you could photo-manipulate it to make it be in color. That way, you wouldn't have to paint it and it'd be alot easier. But, I mean, it still looks WONDERFUL as it is, too
