...I was about to say "Weirdest historians I ever did see", then I remembered how my high school history teacher professed to own a collection of weapons. These allegedly included an Indonesian circumcision knife, a Norwegian battle axe, and a South Carolina cocktail fork which she kept in the shower "just in case".
So....seems plausible enough.

... Historians do not typically pack weaponry (unless going to an area where there are known HUMAN threats), nor do archaeologists. I would claim bullshit even without knowing there are hunters around. Usually they rely on guides to keep them safe from wildlife.

Well they aren't Historians I know that. So they are either hunters, aliens or used car salesmen. My money's on used car salesmen.
