Description Lion cubs born at Zooz in May... Remi and Cooey (not sure how to spell the names...)
The whole time I watched them they were taking turns pouncing on each other... mostly Remi (male) was jumping on Cooey (female), but she was pretty tough too!
Like the others, this was shot through bars which is really irritating, and requires manual focus to be used.
Pretty happy with it, shows the two of them together... have many more shots of them, and if there is interest I will post some more...

That's a really cute moment that you've captured there. Lot's of detail, I love it.

Thanks! I was very pleased... they were so close to the fence that it was impossible to avoid the bars entirely...

You're welcome. You did incredibly well considering the circumstances.

Do you know if there are still any young cubs of any kind there still?

I honestly have no clue, it isn't open yet, and they don't post anything in terms of news on their website... I hope there are still some little ones. Last year there were several baby monkeys (which were very, very entertaining, and great subjects), and the lion cubs.
I'd be thrilled if you could let me know if there are any new babies when you go... I plan on making my way there in a few weeks

I wish every zoo posted current news on their web sites of births and so on.

I don't know if you ever go to Toronto Zoo, but their snow leopards are expecting again and so is the gorilla. Should be a good year there for photos again.

I will definitely let you know how things go at Safari Niagara and if there are any new babies. I'm likely getting a membership there because I'm going to be at the falls for 4 nights, 5 days so I can only assume I'll be there a few times. I'm getting the membership for Marineland anyways since it's only $5 more.

The Zooborns website is a good resource for some places, but doesn't have any info on Safari Niagara or Marineland... it is great for updates though.

I usually get to the Toronto Zoo once or twice a year, I guess I'll wait a while, until at least one or the other gives birth. I've got a membership to the Buffalo Zoo (because it's actually closer to me than the Toronto Zoo) and it affords me a whopping 50% discount on Toronto Zoo admission! lol... so I can totally justify going twice

Have you been to 'Birds of the Lost Kingdom' in the falls? If you like birds, and you haven't been there yet, you should check that out while your in the falls as well. They also have some reptiles, although they don't always allow photography in that area.

I think my Toronto Zoo membership gets me 50% off Buffalo Zoo, interesting. I've never been there though.

I think I know that place simply as Bird Kingdom, so I thought it was called anyways. I've been there twice, such a beautiful place. I love it there. If you go back further in my gallery or just click on Birds category in my gallery, I've got a few nice ones from there. Oh yeah I remember the reptile area there too and being told not to photograph there.

I'm looking forward to the Victoria Day fireworks. I'm going to set up my tripod in my jacuzzi suite room and see if I can get better ones then last time.

Haha... I actually like the Buffalo Zoo, they have more variation than Safari Niagara (which has neither elephants nor gorillas).

Funny you should say that, I just now found those bird shots in your gallery, which were conveniently located in a folder which I looked right past the first time...

That sounds really nice! To have a room facing the falls would be awesome. I guess because I live so close I've always taken it for granted
You'll have to post some of those photos too

I stay in the same room there all the time, overlooks both falls and has a jacuzzi and all. I just have to make sure I get the camera settings all set up for fireworks before I start having a few drinks. Fireworks can be tricky, at least from my experience.

That sounds great! I keep meaning to pick up a remote trigger for things like fireworks... I've got a wireless remote, which won't really help (unless of course I want to sit in front of the camera lol).

tiffanyanddave In reply to Chaotica-I [2009-05-12 13:19:02 +0000 UTC]

I don't have any kind of remote for my camera, I wish I did. But I believe it can be remote controlled though a computer which may just work if I bring my lap top there. Hmmmm.... thanks for reminding me of that feature.

omg, they are so cute.
in the zoo, where i work we have a perfect pair, but someone say: no they donΒ΄t mate, so she get medical, that makes she donΒ΄t get pregnant .
now they say: she can giving birth, but now, she canΒ΄t, the medical was too strong
i wish we have lion cubs, they are so cute.

Thank you! Thanks for the as well!
That is so sad about the lions, the Siberian tigers at Zooz are brother and sister, so they can't have babies either... so I understand how you feel.
I didn't know you worked at a zoo, what do you do there?

AlexPhotograpy In reply to Chaotica-I [2008-09-29 08:06:27 +0000 UTC]

hm what i do?
im now in training to become an animal keeper.
in this weeks i work with zebras, bongos, gazelles and goats.
the main work is cleaning cages and cut fruit and vegetables for the animals.
in 2 weeks i change and work with ponys, alpacas, camels and goats
we havenΒ΄t dolphins, but seals and fur seals
look in my gallery the two young seals are so cute
if you want to know more, tell me
