Digital Painting of Ketu and Makalu, Snow Leopard Cubs at the Buffalo Zoo
Painted in Photoshop CS5, using three of my own photos as reference.
About 6 hours of work.

Dedicated to =WildByDesign , because I know how much he loves Snowy Cubs... and I'm working on convincing him to come down and visit these two!

Please note that I don't have time to say "thank you" for every favourite, but I appreciate them all nonetheless! Thank you all for your support!!!

About the Cubs
Ketu and Makalu were born at the Buffalo Zoo, to mom Annapurna on June 2nd of this year. Annapurna was the last cub born there prior to this recent litter, and she is five years old. Got to see them for the second time this Thursday, and totally fell in love!!! I was able to interact with both cubs at various points, they seemed very interested in playing... I LOVE THEM!

About the Painting
I tried a whole bunch of new techniques in this painting! I just randomly picked out a bunch of references that I liked and got to work! At first I was just playing with the mixer brush, a new tool in Photoshop CS5 that I hadn't tried yet. I loved the way that it allowed the work to retain a more traditional feel. I then proceeded to handpaint some areas, like details on the rocks, and the cubs... which I'm super happy with! I think they are the best full-body big cats I've ever painted! Overall, I LOVE The more traditional art look that I was able to achieve here. Probably going to start another one soon
I also tried out a new kind of frame, which I am really pleased with

Decided to put this one in mixed media because I started with a photo, which I painted over entirely, I used the mixer brush for some of the rock areas, and the sky... and then handpainted the cubs. I think it could still qualify as a "digital painting", but figured I'd go with the safe category.
