Cockatrices are a species of chimera domesticated by the avians, and are native to the continent of Clatt. They are a fusion of a chicken and a dragon.

Body: Cockatrices can either have six limbs like a griffin or a dragon, or just four like a chicken. Four-limbed ones are recessive and less common, but they are better fliers and are faster. Six-limbed are sturdier and heavier, and cannot fly as well as four-limbed. They have combs like a chicken, and in areas it hardens into tough horns which they use for fighting, along with their claws, wing ends, and spurs. Not to mention a common way of fighting is them slamming their thick tails.
Their beaks have outcroppings like teeth, but have no teeth inside their mouths. Their beaks also have a small bump on the tip, an "egg tooth", something all birds have to break out of their egg shells, but cockatrices keep into their adulthood.
They can be practically any color, and often are colored like chickens and dragons. Most often combs/horns are red, but rarely can be other colors. They are around the sizes of wolves.
Their eggs are maybe the size of a football, and have hardened spots on them like scales.
Typically they live around 40-50 years.
There is practically no sexual dimorphism, so telling the sexes apart is nearly impossible.

Personality: They are loud animals, and love screaming and squawking. They are rambunctious and defensive, but are fiercely loyal animals. They like to play fight each other, and can be extremely territorial.

Diet: They are omnivorous and will eat practically anything they can find (they're kind of gluttons).

Magic: They can breath fire, and that's around the extent of it. They are around as smart as dogs, so they do not think up ways to use their magic for better. But those who have can often heal or create energy bursts they can use for increased strength or speed.

Relationship with the avians: They're often kept as pets, and are the equivalent of dogs to them (and have the same level of intelligence as well). They make great guard animals. They are also good with children, so sometimes they are used to protect kids and keep them out of trouble. They are very flexible in their uses. Avians like to throw scraps of food to them, because of their voracious appetites. In battle they can be trained to fight better, and are often used, sometimes even wearing armor or used to carry supplies.
Cockatrices often work as partners with phoenixes, often having a phoenix as a leader of a pack, and the phoenix will guide them.
Cockatrices can have any name, and are named by their avian owners/partners.

Wild: In the wild they are usually in family packs, and will fiercely defend their turf.
