Description *brushing off the dust*

I saw X-men: First Class the other week, and decided to draw Charles Xavier/Professor X, as he was in 1962.

(He is either using telepathy or having migrane.)

No matter what I do, it turns to photorealism Thanks!

The way he's staring at us is a bit unsettling. I think his telepathic message must be something like "leave comment for this awesome painting!"
It worked.

That is high praise Sometimes I get the proportions right on the first try, sometimes it takes forever... practice, practice.

Do keep watching

yes, but unfortunately for the last half a year (or more maybe) I have only done sketchwork... and university tasks... I haven't got anything of good quality to upload (but for university work and by that not all of it is worthy of showing) ah well...

i know what you mean. I wish I had gone to university for art studies instead of computer science... ah well. I still can. I had a break of nearly 6 months during autumn and winter 2011. It comes in waves. Glad you like the stuff

Great job! I absolutely loved X-Men: First Class, so I'm really excited to see some fanart

The textures on his clothes are absolutely amazing--how did you do that?! The gloves and sweater, especially, look terrific.

His face looks good, but I think the skin could use a bit more blending to push that realism to the next level. Not that it's not brilliant already, but a few spots on his forehead, chin and neck could be a bit more defined, you know?

Great work, thanks for sharing!

Charle-magne In reply to astarayel [2011-08-23 14:25:03 +0000 UTC]

Good movie

I used a kind of spatter brush (lots of small dots) and then used a blender brush to make them a bit diffuse... hence the fuzzy effect. Never tried it before!

I know, the face could use some more work... but i value finishing the piece in reasonable time too, I can make a new one in a year or so to compare my progress.

Well the effect came out amazingly. Great job!

I see what you mean. Sometimes you just have to be done with the piece, or else you go nuts. It's a great way to approach the art, and it's still a fantastic piece

Well, I have to admit: If I didn't know that it is you. And if I hadn't watched the progress you've made since we met for the first time, I'd say: it's a photo. Slightly postprocessed, but still a photo!

Wow! How did you do this? Especially the glove's and the sweater's textures look gorgeous!

(I vote for migrane ... Reading the others' thoughts must be painful sometimes. )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Charle-magne In reply to shoughad [2011-07-19 19:41:38 +0000 UTC]

Much thanks and good to hear from you!

It took about a week to do, from sketch to the real thing. Large areas of paint first, then rough details, then a blender to make the color transitions smooth.

The glove and the sweater required a new technique, something that produced a spatter of small dots that i blended slightly into something that looks like wool or similar. Never tried it before
