Description     The 2020 Presidential Election proved to be the final straw for the American people and catalyzed their slide into civil war. The prelude to the bloodiest conflict to ever descend upon the New World saw intense partisan division as emotion and artifice dominated the candidates and electorate. Americans simultaneously let out a sigh of relief and held their breath as election night arrived. It was a weary America that went to bed on November 3rd, the last peaceful night for several years to come, and on November 4th America awoke divided into camps of shock, awe, satisfaction, and fear as Donald Trump had again assumed victory, winning a second term as President, beating Democratic candidate Kamala Harris with the same coalition of states that carried him in 2016. Trump had won the electoral college, with 271 votes to Harris' 267, and the popular vote 49.4% to Harris' 49.2%. Disenchanted, many Democrats turned to the streets and 'Not My President' rallies consumed several major cities, devolving into riots in Baltimore, Los Angeles, and New York. Despite this, the majority of Democrats stayed home, content with their newfound control of the Senate and the preservation of their majority in the House. November passed without drama but as December drew to a close fresh scandal rocked the nation. Rumors of voter intimidation in Wisconsin had been simmering since the election but remained unconfirmed. However, when it surfaced that groups of Republicans had been surrounding polling stations political hell broke loose. Originally, Harris had declined to call for a recount in the closely divided state and conceded the election so as to spare the nation from political violence, but with the breaking of the scandal Wisconsin's 10 electoral votes opened the possibility of toppling Trump and propelling Harris to the Presidency. Harris withdrew her concession and called for a recount, however she was challenged by Republicans in court, who claimed that the statute of limitations on a recount had passed. Seeking to clear the uncertainty, the House launched a snap investigation into election fraud and voter intimidation in Wisconsin. On January 15th, Chief Justice John Roberts announced that he would not administer the Oath of Office to Trump until the results of the Wisconsin election had been resolved, in essence, postponing the inauguration and the formation of a government, however Trump announced his intention to form a government without Roberts' aid, choosing instead to have Brett Kavanaugh administer the oath. On January 20th America was thrown back and forth by a series of dramatic declarations. While Trump's inauguration was being held, the House investigation announced it's findings which concluded that voter intimidation had occurred in Wisconsin and that, had it not, Wisconsin and its electoral votes would have gone to the Democrats. With this information, Harris denounced the Trump administration and claimed Trump's presidency to be illegitimate. Republicans across America reacted to the results of the Investigation with skepticism. Most saw the inherent conflict of interests of a Democratic House swinging an election in the Democrat's favor, and therefore refused to accept the results. Contributing to the confusion, the Supreme Court ruled that in the case of Harris v. the United States, Harris did not have the right to trigger a recount in Wisconsin since she had conceded the election for over a month prior, inflaming Democrats who rejected the idea of a majority Republican court deciding an election in favor of Trump. Harris, having rejected the Court's ruling on the basis of the House report, moved to form a government in Boston, an area firmly in Democrat control. With all these revelations the fate of the Presidency, and America, ultimately fell to the states. As expected, states declared their support for the government which complimented their governor's party, with their legislatures certifying their declaration. However, in states that did not have uniformly controlled governments all authority broke down as their governments collapsed and it was left to the counties to align with a chosen national government. Split between 2 dubiously legitimate governments, America quickly devolved. While each government consolidated their sections of the military and control of their territory, mobs and militias swept the country. On January 26th, Washington DC was overrun by rioters and the seat of the Trump administration was forced to flee to Austin. With the front lines slowly forming up America was catalyzed for war, waiting only for the spark which would set it aflame.
