Description
I'm a fan of the stories of Jedi and Sith when the sides are not so black and white- Some Jedi get up to evil stuff, and Sith are just as capable of good etc.I've been wanting to do this piece ever since my "Jedi in a snowstorm" piece.

I have to admit, I'm liking that idea a bit even though I wonder how Sith can do good considering their philosophies? It's a cool idea thinking about them doing so anyway!

"Good" and "Evil" are also a bit relative to the situation. Yes, there are acts that are one or the other, but the majority of things are varyingΒ shades of grey. Sith, while Dark, are not necessarily "Evil" in the traditional sense. I'm not saying they are likely to adopt orphansΒ or cuddle with Kath hound pups, but even the most reprehensible person can commit acts for the betterment of society. Doing something Good also does not rule out that they may be doing it for the purpose of their own gain.

The thing about the light and dark side is that the dark side first seduces and then corrupts. A force user who seeks the power of the dark side may use it for good but with the success they dwell deeper and get corrupted by it very subtly. Their way of thinking, their points of views start twisting without them even noticing. Hence the order's strict rejection of the dark side.
And by focusing on one side the force user can better utilize the full potential of that one side while someone who tries to keep the balance uses most of his time and focus to struggle not to fall to the dark side( notice "gray jedi" who were commonly known as neutral force users, usualy handled situations very similar to regular jedi knights and clearly rejected the corruption of the dark side rather than the light.) Throughout the ages in the Star Wars universe only relativly few individuals with outstanding potential in the force were able to utalize the power of both sides without favoring either. Usaly those individuals were fallen Jedi who had redeemed themselves and returned to the light side by their own volition. So by having fallen to the dark side once, they understood the sublte seduction and corruption of the dark side and could handle it.
To sum it up. It makes perfect sense for most force users to completly focus on one side.

be a sith or a jedi do not make you an evil or a good person. The jedi fall because they get corrupted. Anakin falls beacause he was afraid of loses everything. Luke won beacause he learned how to use both side when and how. The onli thing who cares is what you do with that power.
