Description
This is Tiefort Mountain looking down on Fort Irwin in San Bernardino County. I don’t know much about it, but they do tank battles and things. It was discovered, as most of California was, by Jedediah Smith (read his memoirs they’re mind-blowing)
And Smith was soon followed by (you’ll never guess) John C. Fremont who established the first army camp here, dragging Kit Carson in tow in case anyone needed to meet his maker on the way. If you were ever wondering why California’s flag has a bear and the word ‘republic’ it has to do with these two gentlemen. Fort Irwin started out under FDR as a anti-aircraft gunnery range, it was named for Major General George Leroy Irwin who commanded the 57th Field Artillery Brigade during the Battle of the Marne. The guns! Boom Boom Boom! Shell shock and something like that, he got a Distinguished Service Medal for it too. He was going to take over the Panama Canal Project but…boom! You have died of dysentery. Almost ten thousand people live in Fort Irwin on any given year.
I don’t know, go read Chateau Grief . Xander is in need of some military discipline right now.
