Description
This pastel, acylic and hey collage is 10' X 20'. I made it for to fit the entire space of a small gallery in Brooklynn NY. I layed a thin sheet of clear mylar over it to protect it as people walked all over it as they observed the work on the wall. Each peice i made on the wall directly connected to the part of the painting on the floor diectly below it. The painting on the wall would show a need and that point on the floor would show what happens if they neglect that need. Gleaners, in the traditional sence of the word wer poor people whom would come to a farm after the crop was harvested and take what scraps they could find. These giant hands represent god protecting His poor from all the people in the gallery whom were just walking all over them - totaly disconnected. There are several scenes of random acts of kindness within the peice - showing gods peolpe living amongst and as one with the poor and dying. I have one painting on the wall that shows a preist as disconnected from the people and in the floor peice you see a priest on his knees gleaning and finding the eucarist (the body of Christ) This is the point of the show. To get envolved -to help others, to work in the dirt to find life in digging, in getting dirty and helpping others. Share eachothers burdens. This painting was real exciting to make - walking all over the peice myself in bare feet i fel a part of that world. The majority of the peice is chal pastels so it was all over me. I carries a spray bottle full of skim milk so i could constantly cure and protect the chalk.
