Short Answer: Mostly Yes.
Long Answer: It's a good series for various reasons including atmosphere, subtext, and even horror (looking at you, Metroid Fusion...). Each game has a large interconnected world with various secrets, truth be told that there's backtracking. If you like exploration, going through old areas with new tools, and little dialogue (most of the time), then the Metroid series should be given a go. I will say that if you can play Zero Mission over the Original, do so, ZM just replaces the Original as THE Metroid 1. Also be wary about Other M, never played it, but other folks don't like it to say the least, and it looks kinda meh to me.

Mmmmh that series has had its ups and downs but the latest entry picked it back up, the Metroid 2 remake for 3DS. And plenty that Zero Suit is containing :3

Mostly great, with a few low spots. Avoid Other M and most spinoffs, and play Zero Mission instead of the original unless you enjoy NES jank. The Prime series is great, if maybe a little too backtracky.
Oh, and see if you can find AM2R. It's an excellent Metroid 2 fan remake.

It's a very good series; I can recommend Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion and Metroid Prime. The games are really enjoyable, reward exploration and have fantastic atmosphere. You've done a beautiful job with Samus.

Great job here! Metroid is a pretty good series. I recommend just about every game in the series except, as anyone will tell you, Other M; avoid that one like the plague. Besides that, give the series a shot if you're interested!

I don't get some of these comments. The series had one bad game and suddenly everyone here is saying Metroid is no longer good. Honestly, the only real problem with Metroid is that it is a Metroidvania which is a niche genre.
