{ Height } 5'6 / 172 cm
{ Weight } 142 lbs / 64 kg
{ Appearance } Kasumi appears to be a normal beautiful woman in her early 20's in her human form, with messy black hair that reaches to her waist and a dyed red streak in the front. As a yokai, she appears exactly the same from a distance; once closer, shining hooks attached to each strand of her hair become visible. Small scars and scratches litter her arms and legs in both forms. A red flower of some kind will usually serve as an accessory to her outfits.
{ Day Job } Barista

{ Abilities }
- Hook hair: Each strand of Kasumi's hair ends in a razor-sharp, barbed hook, disguised as disheveled hair in her human form.
- Their power and speed are incomparable to any other weapon she might be capable of using and serve as her main line of both attack and defense.
- Her control over these hooks varies depending on her current level of concentration and energy; the hooks typically follow her command, and are capable of bending to her will perfectly, but she hasn't yet mastered the skill to controlling their hunger for human flesh.
- While strong enough to rapidly overpower the strongest of human men, the hooks are very volatile and can just as easily hurt any allies or humans in the area (or even Kasumi herself, if she's not careful).
- Additionally, the hooks refuse to "activate" until the sun goes down - just when a nighttime feast for most hari onago would begin. Thus, it is limited to being used at nighttime only, as during the daytime Kasumi must retreat into her human form.
- Taunt: Kasumi laughs in the face of her enemy to provoke an automatic response - depending on her intentions, it can be directed in both a derogatory and attractive manner. When being used to tease or anger enemies, it will result in their focus and physical endurance/energy levels shooting down significantly. When used in a more seductive way, the target will become temporarily stunned and/or become unable to concentrate for a few minutes.
- Obviously, Kasumi must be up close and personal enough for her target to be able to see and hear her.
- Ineffective against yokai/monsters which don't rely on sight/hearing.
- Also functions well in terms of intimidation lmao//
- Kasumi is not very fond of this ability ("Who the hell is intimidated by me laughing at them?") (//RAISES HAND...) and therefore prefers to use it only in certain situations despite its overall handiness. Additionally not as effective as it could be from her lack of practice.
{ Personality }
Kasumi does her best, first and foremost, to be a supportive and encouraging figure with a good sense of humor to both yokai and humans alike. Unable to experience the sensation of having a family of her own growing up, she's an outgoing, clever, and confident member of the Harmony staff's "family". She tries to be a good role model and provide a comfortable and lighthearted environment, allowing her protective side to come out every once in a while when teasing and pranks get too serious. Unfortunately, Kasumi doesn't have much subtlety or tact when it comes to relationships of any kind, preferring to remain straightforward and bold with most forms of communication. Despite this, she still takes pride in seeing her coworkers and "siblings" happy and crushing on each other (sometimes both at once!), even stepping in to play Cupid when necessary. Just beneath her more composed surface, however, lies a much darker side. Kasumi can be extremely manipulative and cold, playing on her nature as a yokai which relies on seduction and deception to feed on humans. She's capable of exerting an extremely powerful and harsh air when in her yokai form, but once this gets too far, her personality can and will change completely. After being pushed too far, Kasumi becomes manic, out-of-control, and even sadistic in some cases once driven enough by overprotectiveness, desperation, or simply an overwhelming amount of physical/emotional exhaustion. On top of all that, she has an ingrained fear of letting down the people she cares about and is terrified that something bad will happen to her loved ones if she's not careful enough. A strained smile and a few carefree gestures hide a deep insecurity of hurting or losing her new family, and Kasumi is determined to protect what she's built up for herself at any and all costs.
tl;dr older, emotionally unstable, and sadistic ayano tateyama with a dye job who feeds on the flesh of foolish human men

{ History }
Kasumi had never known either of her parents or any siblings, if she had ever had any to begin with. Her earliest memories are of bitterly cold winters and blessedly balmy summers, scampering along in whichever back alleyways and streets she could find. Her name was Kasumi, she knew that, and she had very long hair that was fun to run her fingers through but left strange stinging sensations on her palms afterwards. She didn't have parents or a home or anyone to love like the other children around her. Instinct told her to stick to the shadows, to shy away from whatever help was offered to her, and, most strangely and frequently, to feed.
During those first years as a child, she did her best to scavenge whichever remains of food and drink she could find, imitating the other street rats she saw around her. She got by well enough - never quite full enough, or quite warm enough, but she was alright. She would be okay.
Little Kasumi dreamed about a life of her own. Someday, she thought, she'd have a big happy family of her own to love and take care of, and they'd spend their days playing and learning together. Nights would be in a nice warm bed curled up together, beating hearts lined up one by one and all full of nothing but love. Maybe she'd even be able to have a little garden full of flowers (what was the one that nice flower man had told her about that was hard to pronounce? chrysanthemums?) like the one she'd seen on the streets, and a nice kimono to wear that would match the blossoms she'd put in her hair, and everything would be safe and happy and good.
But then things started changing as Kasumi grew older in the years to come.The same scraps of food that had sustained her well enough for years before didn't seem like anything at all. She was growing bigger, sure, so of course she'd need more to eat, but nothing seemed to fill the pit in her stomach that had seemingly appeared overnight. Her body was developing much more quickly than everyone she could see around her. She couldn't bear to comb her fingers through her hair anymore for fear of cutting her hands. She didn't understand what was going on. Why wasn't she just like everyone else?
14 years old and all alone, with the figure of an adult woman and a head of thick hair tipped with shining hooks. Kasumi wasn't human; she knew that now for sure. The hunger that had been festering within her for years was becoming unbearable now, and she'd taken to spending more time searching desperately through abandoned lots, cutting through back streets, trying to find whatever it was that she needed to eat so badly.
And then she snapped.
She'd been on another of her a midnight searches when she passed by a boy around her age, tall and pretty and with flawless hair practically glowing in the dark of the night. A huge, hulking beast of a man seemed to be taunting him, gesturing to his figure rudely with greed and something that disgusted Kasumi to even think about lurking beyond the surface of his eyes. Filth of the lowest kind, disgusting to the core.
She laughed at him, and he turned and saw a helpless homeless girl giggling with fright. He laughed back, and then she made sure that he'd never laugh again. Instinct took over as her body seemed to move of its own accord. When she came back to her senses, trembling, there was blood everywhere and no sign of the boy she'd unintentionally saved. What was left of the man was spread on the cold concrete before her, and she wasn't hungry anymore.
Terrified of what she was capable of, Kasumi fled back to the safer areas of the city and threw herself into becoming as "normal" as she could for the next few years. A part time job at a local flower shop gave her the funds to purchase better clothing and supplies, with the elderly owner being kind enough not to question why she slept there when she could, and every so often she'd reluctantly sneak out to eat because she had to.
Things started to change again as she matured, though. With several years' worth of money saved up and a lot of assistance from the flower shop's owner, Kasumi was able to purchase a small apartment in Asakusa, finally Free! to have a chance at having a real life and a real family for once. Determined to catch up on at least the basic educational skills she'd missed out on while living on the streets, she learned enough to make her everyday tasks easier and pass the days by more quickly. The old florist treated her as a daughter, never having had any children to cherish, and when the dreaded occasion of their passing away finally arrived Kasumi was left with a decent inheritance and a flower shop to run.
Completely clueless about how to run a business, she sold off the shop to a kind couple who had been regulars there for years and began searching for a new place to work that didn't hold so many bittersweet memories. She'd been exploring the area one night for a quick snack when she ran into a very familiar face - the beautiful boy she'd seen on the streets so many years ago. He introduced himself as Kouki and revealed that he was a yokai as well, and quite an interesting one at that. They became fast friends and remain trusted allies to this day, and after Kouki introduced her to the pretty cafe just down the street from the apartment she'd be living in, the rest was history.
Now Kasumi has been working as a barista for about a year and a half while Kouki runs his...business...in the back of the cafe. She's still not quite sure what she wants to do with her life, especially with her lack of formal education, but she's very happy as she is with the little family at Harmony that she never had the chance to have before. She still struggles severely with keeping herself under control and is working hard on developing her abilities further, but she looks forward to meeting all of the new employees!
{ Additional Information }
- Kasumi thrives in hot weather and thoroughly enjoys summertimes, especially when she has spare time to spend with some of her favorite family members at the cafe! (o´∀`o)
- She is often mistaken for being very experienced in all manner of sexual and romantic affection. In reality, she’s never actually been in a serious relationship and never really had the opportunity to focus on romance while growing up. Despite this, Kasumi is happy playing the role of matchmaker/cupid among the yokai in the cafe, giving out advice and nudging together mutual crushes as subtly as she can. (In other words, incredibly bluntly, but. She tries.)
- She’s also quite fond of makeup and hairstyling and likes to experiment with them both liberally in her spare time, although she tries to keep herself looking more modest during work hours at the cafe.
- She is mildly claustrophobic
- Kasumi is also quite good at hand-to-hand combat and fighting dirty, but her accuracy with anything that needs to be thrown or shot is awful.
- She prioritizes power and accuracy over speed when it comes to combat.
- She and Kouki have an unspoken understanding when it comes to full moons and feeding times for the both of them - they roam the streets together and feed on the human criminals they can find with their combined abilities.
{ RP Samples }
{LIT} Kasumi's eyebrows shot up as she leaned forward over the counter, eyes widening in sudden realization. "Oh, I see...you like him as more than a friend, then?" A sinister grin spread slowly over her face. "Nee, there's no hiding it now, I can see you blushing even when you try to hide your face like that." The sudden swoosh of the door announced the arrival of a group of customers, and Kasumi stepped back and smoothed the front of her kimono over, pulling her hair back into a more professional high ponytail. Meeting the younger yokai's eyes, she sent a roguish wink in their direction and gestured loosely towards the crowd of humans now filling the cafe, an unspoken message passing clearly between the two of them: We'll finish this later.
{SCRIPT} Kasumi: *twirls hair around finger* That man who's always passed out in the back? Oh, you mean old Moon Moon? Hairstyle changes every week, looks like he's never seen a day of sunlight in his life, sells weird shit in that shop of his? *laughs* He and I go waaaay back, alright.
{ RP Methods }
Comments, notes, rp chatrooms, and Skype work most well for me - Google Docs, email, etc. are also fine, but I will likely need to be reminded... a lot...oshiete, ,
If you’d prefer to simply headcanon our characters (essentially bounce around ideas about their relationship and daily lives without needing to rp it all), I’m just as happy with that! i'm a lot busier right now than i thought i might be with swim team, orchestra, homework, etc. so i'm actually much more likely to respond quickly and consistently if we're talking headcanons lmao
