Another steampunk necklace I made. I'm making more simpler pieces. This one is for my awesome stepsister, ~AmusedBookwormShe loves the owls, and steampunk, and what's even better is that I do, too!

Oh wow, I've never answered that question before, uh, let's see...
I've been studying the steampunk fashion, which includes reading books and looking for inspiration from other artists and steampunk themed movies and games. Steampunk in general requires lots of different parts, being able to recognize the themes, and being good with all sorts of jewelry tools and resources. For me, my pieces usually start with someone in mind, without a certain person or specific theme in mind, I can't come up with something. Before making the piece, I have to sketch it out by drawing what I want it to look like just out of memory or pictures from books on the pieces I want to come together, then I get the pieces, which is hard because they are not always available, so a lot of improvising happens, and thankfully there are certain stores, specifically bead stores that let you assemble things there so I can see how they may look, if you know how to take them apart without damaging anything, xD
For me, though, it generally takes having to go through 8 different stores all over the twin cities area, XDDD I'm very picky.
