Description An empty hall at Ft. Macon.

Did you know?
Construction of Fort Macon began in 1826 and was completed in December of 1834, lasting 8 years.
Between 1877 and 1903 it was used off and on by the US Army or as a prison until the Army completely abandoned it in 1903.
The fort was sold to the State of North Carolina on June 4, 1924 for the hefty sum of $1, becoming the second state park in North Carolina.
During 1934 and 1935, the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) restored the fort and added recreational facilities and the park opened May 1, 1936 as North Carolina's first functioning state park.

Sweet.  Ft. Monroe has a similar building.  It used to be home to the TRADOC, as it was known when I was there.  It's owned by the city of Hampton now.

Yep, was a civil war fort.  It's not far from the old Ft. Wolfe, which you need a boat to get to.  My area has lots of military history.  The Monitor and Merrimack had their famous dueling match here in my waters.
