Ludwig sits against a tree as he waits for his brother to get back. Both him and his brother are half-nekos. It's late winter and Gilbert is currently looking for food for the two of them. The two brothers are homeless and don't have warm enough clothes for the cold weather that's been coming.

Ludwig shivers in his spot as the coldness numbs his arms and legs through his thin clothing. There's a shuffling nearby but he doesn't pay attention to it. It's probably a human walking by. Something weighs down on his shoulders, blocking out most of the cold. He looks over to see a boy about his age sitting next to him. He's removed his coat and is now only in his scarf and hat along with a hoodie keeping the cold away. The boy pulls out a bag and from it takes out a sandwich, handing it to Ludwig. He brings out an apple for himself and bites into it, smiling at Ludwig's confused face.

"I'm _________," you introduce yourself happily. "Do you have a name?"

"Ja, Ludwig," he tells you.

Gilbert hisses at the snow that he steps through causing his legs to loose all feeling. He hasn't been able to find any food today and he'll have to go look even farther tomorrow. Gilbert enters the park and heads towards the tree he left Ludwig at. His ears perk up as he smells something. Gilbert's ears flatten against his head and his tail poofs up as he recognizes the scent.

You're sitting next to Ludwig making small talk when there's a blur of white in front of you. Suddenly you find yourself pinned to the ground by a neko with white hair and ears and bright red eyes.

"Bruder!" Ludwig yells at the neko.

"What are you doing talking to West, inu?" Gilbert hisses at you. The hat on your head as fallen off from the impact to reveal two pointy dog ears. You squirm underneath him, whimpering and trying to break free. His grip tightens on your wrists and you let out a cry of pain as his nails slightly dig into your skin. Ludwig grabs him by the back of his collar and pulls him off you. You sit up rubbing your wrists as you look around for your hat.

"Bruder! What were you doing!?" Ludwig snaps at him.

"Protecting you from that Inu!" Gilbert says as if it's the most obvious thing ever.

Ludwig sighs before saying, "__________ wasn't hurting me. He was just talking to me and gave me food and his coat."

"What?" Gilbert asks confused. He's met Inus before and knows they're anything but pleasant. Gilbert feels fabric wrap around his neck and looks over to see you wrapping your scarf around his neck. "What are you doing?"

"You need it more than me," you tell him shyly.

"But I just attacked you! And you're an Inu! Why are you being so nice?" Gilbert questions.

"Well... I used to live on the streets too..." you tell him.

"Someone took you in?" Ludwig asks surprised. You nod and stand up.

"It's going to rain soon. Um, you can come home with me for the night at least. I'm not sure if you can stay for long but since it's going to rain he'll let you stay," you tell them. Gilbert and Ludwig follow you as you lead them to your house. You don't live very far away from the park, just a block or so.

You open the door using a key before leading the two nekos inside. Just as you said it started to rain as the three of you got up to your porch.

"Vati?" you call through the house as you turn on the light.

"I thought he wasn't related to you," Ludwig comments.

"He's fine if I call him that," you tell him. You hear noise from the kitchen and look down the hallway to see your Vati standing in the kitchen. "Vati!" you say happily hugging him as he turns around from his cooking.

"Did you have a good day __________?" he asks petting your head as you hug him. You nod happily as you take in his body heat. He notices Gilbert and Ludwig watching from the hallway. "What did I tell you about talking to strangers?"

"That I shouldn't talk to anyone if you're not watching me," you answer embarrassed moving your feet around uncomfortably. "But they're nice, can they please stay the night Vati? It's raining outside and they're homeless!" you plead with him.

"Fine they can stay in the guest room. Just make sure they get cleaned before dinner," he tells you.

"Danke!" you thank him happily. You pull away from him and he notices the marks Gilbert's nails left in your wrists.

"_________, what is this?" he questions catching your wrists before you can escape. You cringe slightly at the question. He stares at you waiting for your answer as his hands hold your wrists firmly but gently.

"Um, sir, that was my fault," Gilbert speaks up from his spot. Your Vati looks to Gilbert for an explanation. "You see I thought he was threatening my little Bruder so I pinned him to the ground and I held on a little too tight." Gilbert waits to be yelled at but that never comes.

"Alright it seems you aren't lieing," he says nodding before turning back to you. "Just bring the first aid kit down after you're done helping them."

"Ja Vati," you say before leading Gilbert and Ludwig upstairs.

Later that evening you sit at the table with Gilbert, Ludwig, and your Vati. Your wrists are cleaning and wrapped and you sit eating wurst and potatoes your Vati cooked. Gilbert and Ludwig have both bathed and cleaned getting rid of the dirt and grime along with you throwing out their dirty clothes and giving them clean ones. They seem to be greatly enjoying the meal. You think your Vati likes Gilbert for looking out for Ludwig back at the park.

Gilbert wakes up in the middle of the night with a jolt. Thunder booms outside and he flattens his ears to his head in dislike. Both him and Ludwig have grown used to thunder from living outside during storms. Ludwig's already up, sitting up in the bed. Gilbert sits up next to him not able to fall asleep either as the storm rages on outside. The thunder subsides for a few minutes and over the rain pattering against the glass Gilbert hears crying. Gilbert's ears perk up to hear it closer. A sudden burst of thunder echoes through the house and the crying turns to sobs. The neko brothers look at each other before both of them stand up and start to search for the source of the noise. They follow the crying to your room next to theirs. You lie on your bed with your pillow over your head in an attempt to block out the thunder. Gilbert and Ludwig watch you for a minute from the doorway before another burst of thunder causes you to go into histerics.

Gilbert climbs into your bed before pulling you into a hug from behind while Ludwig moves over and hugs your front. Your eyes snap open at the contact but you relax as you realize who it is. Your crying dies down as you cling to the nekos that lay there with you. Just them being there causes the thunder to seem farther off and not as frightening. They make you feel protected from the storm outside.

"Guten nacht __________, Ludwig," Gilbert says resting his head in the crook of your neck.

"Guten nacht," you two say following suit.

Your Vati opens your bedroom door the next morning to see you lying there with Ludwig and Gilbert hugging you from either end. He knows of your fear of thunder and heard when your crying stopped last night right before he was going to check on you. He smiles down at the three of you before going to make breakfast. Maybe letting the neko brothers stay wouldn't be such a bad idea.
