I like the detail you put in this pic.. in the wings and on her dress folds, it shows how much effort you put into these things and its a good study of texture too.
However, the other elements in the painting (and the other paintings too) don't have the same attention that you put in the dress and wings. For example, her hair is sort of solid yellow, and the wood at the bottom is an overall brown, and the background further on is not convincing.
Sometimes we like to paint things that are interesting to us, like personally, I love painting faces and flowers and have folders of pics of em. But for a painting to look interesting, the whole painting must be considered, even the parts we don't like. I know it is boring to paint wood and background scenery and hair, but it is important if you want the entire pic to be successful. Otherwise, it will just look out of place and ruin the pic.
I'm sure you put alot of research into the dress and the wings, and see how well it turned out! Imagine if you put the same amount of effort into the backgrounds, try and imagine a beautiful balcony, a wonderful sunset, an interesting patio floor.. it will totally make the picture alot more interesting and will attract and keep peoples attention. A wooden balcony sounds boring at first.. but think, what kind of balcony? If you do research, you can find something really interesting that can appeal to you. Maybe one of those beautiful filigree balconies, or one of those stately roman marble balconies.. all of these little things really add something to the picture. Is she the kind to stand on a simple wooden balcony, or a, expensive marble balcony, or a romantic rose filled balcony, etc? Interesting elements like that make the pic fun to see.
You don't want people to go 'Oh, that's a chick with a nice dress and wings standing on a boring balcony, that looks like my neighbor's patio.' You want them to go 'DUDE that's a hot chick with an awesome costume standing on a wonderful beautiful balcony with filigree all over and oh I want that floor pattern in my house and what a beautiful sunset I want to be there with her etc etc.'
Every part of the painting must be perfect and beautiful! Otherwise, the human eye will inevitably ignore the beautiful parts and go straight to the ugly part. It never fails, I would spend a week on an illustration and once I upload it to DA, by the 5th comment or so, someone would pick out the part I've been slacking on... so boost everything up to about the same level of awesome

Very nice. I like the folds in the dress.
Cute bunny too, you normally don't see people draw them.

Thank you.
^^
I wanted to try something out with fur, and I thought a bunny (its actually an arctic hare here) would fit the element of wind: something that is small and fast.

The shadows on the back of the dress are really nice. Keep it up and try to keep it consistent. Can't wait to see the others!!!

well you don't necessarily have to have it adapt to your style. you might have too distinct styles one in a traditional medium and then a digital one. This is just my personal thing but I don't think you have to have one style to make it, and I think that having multiple styles or mediums is better for finding a job later. Are you going to be in senior studio next semester?

Well, what I've learned from my Illustration V class, is that sometimes, digital can become a bit.... computerized? Is that how I should put it? For example, you with a computer, you loose your signature line... but it does depend on the person and how you go about the whole thing. If you look at my piece in the show: "Decision" (I think its called: its a print), then you might see it. I don't think I'm putting that up on here because its not quite the work that I want to do... in some ways yes, but... I'm being quite strict and selective about the work I put up on here now.
And also, you do not want to have too many styles, otherwise the art director will not know what to expect when he hires you. People hire you based on your style, and when its inconsistent, then they may feel uneasy about hiring you.
And yes, I will be a senior next year. :)
Are you going to be a junior next year, or do you just have one semester left being a senior?
can't remember...

I have one semester left being a senior so I technically graduate in December. We've talked a lot about the whole style thing in senior studio. I guess for me having the multiple media and styles is a plus where as for someone like Nate who has such a strong style the one is fine. So I guess it's more of how you balance things.
