Description Meet Leonard.  I hope you like him, because he's here to stay!  I got Leonard and his female counterpart Penny for the sole purpose of being breeding stock, but Leonard quickly demonstrated that he was so, so much more.  Not only is he gorgeous (just look at that comb!) he's also one of the friendliest chickens I have ever owned, happy to cuddle with me for as long as I will allow it, or to follow me around the yard looking for bugs.  On top of all of that, he's also delightfully quirky.  When Leonard was just a tiny 3-week-old chick, I awoke to the sound of him crowing outside of my bedroom window!  Well, trying to crow, anyway.  At 8 weeks, he is already sporting an impressive comb and wattle that would make any big rooster jealous--I may have to make him a hat to prevent frostbite when the temperatures start to drop below freezing.

What a handsome boy! I wonder if he will grow into that comb more, or it will keeping growing as he does! I am also glad you know how easily combs that big can get frostbite! Where do you live (just curious, what part of the country!) ? How fun he is so friendly, and I love his name - it sours him somehow!

We're in Kansas, and from what I've seen of Leghorn roos, I can expect his comb to just keep growing! @_@  I've had experience with frostbite--our white rock rooster Mars has lost most of his comb to it, and continues to have problems no matter what we do.  Fortunately, the rest of our flock hasn't had nearly as much of a problem with it, even other roosters with big combs.

Aww, okay! I was just curious! It'll be neat to see how he changes as he grows up!
