The famous scholar Twilight Sparkle with her trusty helperbot of the smile-series, Pinkie Pie, which went out of production years ago due to a much too high explosion-rate. Good thing Twilight knows her way around a wrench or two.

There's a story here beyond the obvious. Whenever I see this image, I keep thinking about what rights robot-ponies would have in a victorian-style Equestria.

Which is to say, close to none!

How strange must it seem to the common pony, then, how outlandish a notion to the nobility, that the mystical forces of Harmony itself chose a machine as one of its Element-bearers.

And, just like that, Smile-Unit "Pinkie Pie" #776 finds herself unexpectedly at the front-lines of a civil-rights movement for automaton-ponies...

You know, you haven't told us how Twilight Sparkle lost her leg, some sort of accident while experimenting with magic?
And also, how Applejack lost both hindlegs?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chickenwhite In reply to Redtriangle [2013-12-03 10:28:36 +0000 UTC]

Huh, I was so sure I did...
Twi lost her leg one time when Pinkie exploded, Applejack didn't lose hers, but got them replaced so her work wouldn't wear her hooves and spine down. It was courtesy of Rarity >w<

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Redtriangle In reply to Chickenwhite [2013-12-03 18:07:47 +0000 UTC]

Ouch.

Applejack traded her organic legs for mechanical ones. I don't know. Unlike most other amputees, she willing had her legs remove and have short sense of loss.
Still, it's weird how somepony traded away something what belongs to their body.

Wait, if Pinkie Pie exploded, hadn't she died?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chickenwhite In reply to Redtriangle [2013-12-03 20:51:22 +0000 UTC]

No, Twilight repaired her >w<

Still, I don't expect somepony explode dand still live or come back.

Ooh, a call? Who's calling? If somepony's calling, somepony else should pick up the phone or they won't know why the first somepony was calling in the first place! Maybe it's important! *gasp* Maybe it's a party-invitation! Oh gosh, I'd better pick up the phone or I'll miss it!
Hello? HEL-LOOO? Hey, what's that beeping sound? What? No, on -your- end. Can you hear me? HEL-LOOOOO!
*puts down phone with a pout*

DrunkenDragonDirge [2013-03-07 06:00:36 +0000 UTC]

Did you aim for the celestial style about twilight's horn? or kind of an unintended work?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chickenwhite In reply to DrunkenDragonDirge [2013-03-11 20:39:36 +0000 UTC]

I honestly just drew what made more sense to me while not being too discordant with the style. As for the shape of her magic, I was trying to make it look like a cog, although that's not all that visible, unfortunately XD;;

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DrunkenDragonDirge In reply to Chickenwhite [2013-03-11 22:58:02 +0000 UTC]

It is why I asked about the celestia style, her symbol is very very symmetrical in such a way to be construed and interpreted that way. But thank you for the quick replies on both questions.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chickenwhite In reply to DrunkenDragonDirge [2013-03-12 09:24:15 +0000 UTC]

I'm not quite sure I'm entirely aware of what you mean by celestia-style. Care to enlighten?

You yeah, you're quite lucky with the replies, I have a bad habit of disappearing over long periods of time at random TwT;;

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DrunkenDragonDirge In reply to Chickenwhite [2013-03-12 11:57:26 +0000 UTC]

Celestia's own mark, is very symmetrical, to the point of being able to bisect it from any angle in a middle cut if memory serves right. The nature of twilights own mark has a kind of halfway point between celestia's own, and luna's free flowing one. You very aptly, and uniquely put into twilight what many miss, the symbolism of what twilight is in its meaning, and the balance between each. And even into the design of both clothing, and appearance too.

I tend to look at things a little different for symbolism, often noting little nuances while missing bigger pictures as they aren't exactly seen at the differences. But you are very welcome. And I hope you have a good day.

I know I just commented on this a couple weeks ago, but it's seriously one of my favorite things ever. I'm using it as my desktop background. I just... I just love it. I wish everyone in the world could see it and appreciate all the amazing detail you put into it. One glance, and there's a whole story in my head, with a whole new UNIVERSE tagging along beside it. Ponies are awesome, robots are awesome, steampunk is awesome, and YOU are awesome.

Also... is that a picture of Celestia on Twilight's brooch?

KopaLeo [2012-07-03 13:21:54 +0000 UTC]

OK, here's the idea. All the steampunk ponies are all equipped with metal cogs, steam, Carnot heat engines and Victorian outfits. How about electricity and hot air balloons? Cool electricity steampunk can be inspired by the totally crazy Tesla. The balloons were also a great hit in the Industrial Era. For example, small decorations of hot air balloons were once popular on French furniture. Hans Christian Ørsted wrote poetry series Luftskibet ("The Airship"), inspired by the balloon flights of fellow physicist and stage magician Γ‰tienne-Gaspard Robert.
Also, Twilight is already using balloons and electricity in the show, making this more in-universe style.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chickenwhite In reply to KopaLeo [2012-07-03 23:50:20 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I know about Ørsted, I'm pretty sure my teachers made me read some of his stuff in school... I am, after all, Danish TwT

And that's definitely an interesting idea >w< Although, as is apparent from my drawings, I'm more lenient towards -steam-punk and not as much electricity-inspired stuff... Though it might be worth looking into, thanks >w<
