Agreed. We really shouldn't be accusing people of stealing OCs based on only their appearance. I mean, it could've been just a misunderstanding or a coincidence. Although, I guess the only exception is if it's literally a carbon copy of your OC, and that's also debatable. And then there's those people who accuse others of stealing their OCs when the design for them is incredibly simple/ordinary. But yeah.

That cannot be true... Where human stupidity will end...?
In real life, most of thing have similarity with another design. It's unavoidable. Same with clothes design of an OC.
I had someone with the same name of my OC. It's true a name such "Vortex"(full name : "Vortexis") is not quite common. XD

That's not bother me when someone say how similar of my OCs compare to theirs.
But it will be a drama if they demand me to change my OCs or call me thief. (All of my babies bron from the empty plain papers so it impossible that I copy someone)

But I made her before I was learned who is Slender Man. So...Yeah.

ehhh, depends on what's being copied to me :'D On a small level, yah.
But for instance, if it's a unique design and someone "copies" it, it could be copy-catting/design theft.

It's even funnier when they come after you with all their "THIS AND THAT IS THE SAME ARFBLAGHDSHDNDTHDE YOU COPIED X CHARACTER!"...and then you check out X character, just to notice that the owner hasn't even been on dA nearly as long as you have.
Has happened to me quite a lot of times, with the same and TERRIBLY GENERIC character all over again. Pfft, I know that a million others look like her. But I won't change mine. I'll just keep pissing others off. ='D
Or, like, when they come at you and say "YOUR character looks ewxactly like mine! I didn't draw her yet, but mine was there earlier, I made her up when I was 8!"
Yeah, sure. And I was able to travel through time, across half of the world, to read your minds, when suddenly, 5 years later, I made up a character that looks similar. Yeah, I totally stole it.
And: Where YOU able to do it? MAYBE I already had the character in mind before you even were born, go figure? xDDDD
Or the exact other way round: I have already often seen characters that looked so much like those I really had in mind before I even knew about dA, but was too afraid to draw them because people might think I copied intentionally. I once even asked another artist for "permission" to use my own design, because theirs looked creepily EXACTLY the same, just with swapped colors. x'D
Stories of my life.

I know right, it's so annoying =___="
or the worst is when people even start comparing your OC's the themselves. I drew a fanart comic once that had one of my OC's in it, and loads of people were like "ahhh, this looks just like me! <33333333333333333333", "I showed this to my sister because it looks just like her" or "oh my god! i end up with -xcharacter- <3333"?!

This is why I made my OC look as unique as possible-- to keep the haters away. Funny thing is, since fan-fiction and original characters is technically plagiarizing (obviously no one minds it as long as no money is being exchanged, etc.), we're all copying.
[link] <-- My OC btw.

Actual original characters aren't plagiarized though \o/
Yeah, that's why no matter the artwork I create, if I have my fan character in there, I always put the proper copyrights to the show/series/manga the character is from c:
Nice OC!

I see that a lot with the Exorcist OC creators. They'll claim they own the uniform and like wut. I mean, I can understand being sensitive about a creative customization of the uniform, but you can only claim so much lmao. I had one girl come at me one day about "copying her DGM OCs shorts design". I wanted to facedesk Dx

I made my exorcist's uniform pretty creative and different from other OCs, but even then I still wouldn't get all mad if someone else "copied" me.
Damn, they're just clothes. >_>

It really bothers me when people say stuff like that. Let's say they enter my gallery, and looks at one of my OCs. The OC is wearing jeans, and the person comments that their OC also wears jeans. Who cares? Jeans are COMMON, which means a great bit of the world population WEARS them. Which means there are a lot of OCs out that wear jeans, so there's no way to make your OC wear completely original clothing. Trying to find a way to do so is pretty much more than meets the eye. If you want to make your OC wear completely original clothes, well, tough. There's always a way that whatever your OC wears will look like that of another OC's, so there's always gonna be that one person that comments a thing like that.
"Your OC has a high ponytail, my OC also has a high ponytail!" "Your OC has long red hair, so does my OC!" "He has one eye just like my OC's!" "She has rainbow shoes, just like my OC!" "Your pony OC wears a bow, so does mine!" Shut up, shut up, SHUT UP! Would people like those ever shut up?!

Agreed. There is a limit to the outfits you can use and saying that someone is stealing when there's not that many options to chose from in the first place is basically the same thing as saying that person is copying you by wearing the same shirt that same day.

You know, when something is so overused that everybody has run out of ideas and simply use the same dam thing, over and over - maybe it's time to move on to something else.
It's like all the anime OCs look the same no matter what one does to change them.
Shorts, let's see; spandex, latex, tricot with lace, denim... oh and we have skirts; maybe we can put shorts under the skirt...shorts, skirts, tights...yes tights, any color, any design.

I don't know if I already commented on it but the guide that person made just reminded me and DAMN IT. ALMOST ALL THE EXCORCIST'S UNIFORMS ARE THE SAME SO DEAL WITH IT. like in the actual manga they are matching, pretty much. (you know besides the customizations needed.) why? Because uniforms motherfucking match. Otherwise why is it a uniform omg sdkfhsjkdgks sorry //endsminirant

Your points of view are taken, noted, and understood, I agree with you at 110% however the reason why some people become so irritated is because some people have a hard time coming up with ideas, some it takes a good long while before they come up with something really amazing to them then they put their best effort into it but when they see someone's work who is similar to theirs it's just like the point your stating here, it's a confidence killer to them. This is just the kind of issue you will always be bound to. Usually when people make an OC based on an already exsisting story/anime/game your world and universe of creativity and imagination is greatly limited with what you can do and create and thus you are most likely to make this encounter a lot. That's why I encourage people to make their OC's with their actual own story rather than being an OC of naruto, bleach, DGM, One Piece ect. Of course it's still fun to make these kind of OC's but rather than make an OC part of that specific universe/world why not make the OC as I suggested with their own world or story and then have them dress up in an alternative costume that matches the style of another world thus kinda being the anime version of cosplay.

I have both FCs (fan characters of an anime/book/etc universe) and some OCs |D
For a while, I wasn't confident enough to make an actual OC, but after becoming limited in the FC category, I started to move towards OCs, haha. I think it's a growth and preference thing honestly. I have a /ton/ of fun writing FC stories, but I have more fun drawing my OCs. It's a weird mix |D

You want to know why so many anime characters look alike? The same reason a lot of our movies and tv shows look alike: they know what's popular and what makes money. Why change a winning formula however tiresome it is?
As someone who likes manga (and western animation), I understand that fact, but the same could be said for classic 'western' cartoons.
A lot of the classics use Preston Blair's guidelines; using specific physical attributes for specific characters.
Yes, a lot of modern manga typically follows the style of Tezuka (who started the huge-eye-small-mouth trend with inspiration from Disney, no less), but, like modern western cartoons, some have evolved from that and created its own unique look.
Personally, I think that east or west, cartoons are cartoons. Some are more unique, some follow the formula. That's all there is to it.

This happened to me. Sadly, with one of the most generic hairstyles out there. My OC happened to have long black curly hair. So did this other person's OCs. (Not mention any usernames >.>) My OC also had purple eyes. This person's OC had magenta (more red if anything) eyes.
This person sent their white-knighting friends after me, 'cause she couldn't be assed herself, saying that "purple is a color in magenta, you copied!" and "her hair is EXACTLY like my friend's OC!". Which is wasn't. My OC's hair was more curly, the other's more wavy. Believe it or not, there's a difference, as I told them. This one person persisted, saying that long black curly hair was NOT generic. Ironic, as curly hair is a dominant allele.
Sorry that I already had three other OCs with black hair that was straight, and didn't want to make another :C
Ha ha, sorry for the rant. I'm still a little riled up about it xD
