Would you believe that this is not a 101 Dalmatian Street original character? The truth is, this is a redesign of my character, Zinnia. It doesn't seem like she is a unicorn anymore. There is a reason for that, but let's start things off slow. This is something I've been debating to do for some time. While I enjoy the idea of Zinnia being a unicorn, I found it kind of surprising for Super Mario to own one so casually. I wanted to have a more carefree but still joyful relationship for Mario and Zinnia, without the extreme and mythical nature of a unicorn being present. One of the shows I received inspiration from is Oswald the Octopus. Oswald has a wiener dog named Weenie, who funnily enough looks like a hotdog. Despite being considered just his pet, Oswald did everything with Weenie and it was charming to see how much they cared for one another. Thus I turned Zinnia into a puppy. If you're wondering if this means that Zinnia being portrayed as a unicorn is a concept that's gone for good, that is not the case. I still want her unicorn form to be linked to her. If anything that's what it's going to be from now on, a form. The kind of form that can only be accessed once certain conditions are met for Zinnia. Then we'll be able to see her in her unicorn glory once again. As for what puppy Zinnia is supposed to be, I was going to go for a dalmatian since I like the breed and because 101 Dalmatians actually is another inspiration for this new Zinnia. I tried to draw her in a more traditional dog style, but it ended up looking more like Dalmatian's Street style instead. It seems as if my simplistic art style has won again. Still, to show that her unicorn form is linked, I drew her spots blue instead of black. This is the same shade of blue of her coat when she becomes a unicorn. Now that I think of it, those spots remind me of Blue from Blue's Clues. But that is merely a coincidence. As for the rest of her design, I didn't want to add too much since I thought the simplicity would speak for itself. I've been thinking of adding highlights to Zinnia's eyes if I am to draw her again, but that much is up for debate.

Now that we've said all that, let's talk a little more of Zinnia's personality especially since she is a puppy now. Zinnia is as playful and fun loving as ever. Although she is a little on the shy side and doesn't care too much about all the attention in the world since her human gives her plenty, Zinnia is happy to spend time with him, Luigi and Peach whenever they have time to be together. Despite if there day is chopped filled with activities or if they are resting at home, Zinnia doesn't get bored easily. If she ever does, a few games and bellyrubs should cheer her up quickly. Of course, she may enjoy spending time with Mario, she can't always be with him since there are times in which a superhero is needed at a faraway place and sometimes it's best if he doesn't bring his puppy with him, especially since she doesn't have much experience with bad guys. In those cases, she becomes lonely and worried if he'll return. That's when she spends time at Princess Peach Toadstool's Castle until he returns. If Peach herself is absent due to another kidnapping by Bowser, Toadsworth is the one who watches over her. He has a surprising amount experience in taking care of others and his wisdom can be fascinating to Zinnia. Although she is also tends to be a little overwhelmed by the royal life, she is thankful for it when it comes around and is glad that she has friends like Peach and Toadsworth by her side at all. But speaking of Bowser, despite how much trouble he caused, Zinnia still finds it in her heart to forgive and even speak with him if she gets a chance to. While many may see Bowser as an evil monster and nothing more, Zinnia notices a sense of good deep inside him after all. The fact the he sometimes helps Mario when they are facing a larger threat is proof of that. This is because Zinnia believes that there is good in everyone and chooses to show them mercy when the bad ones have nothing left. It's similar to what Mario has for he to forgives Bowser for he would never invite him to go kart racing if he didn't. It's this sense of compassion and mercy that gives Zinnia hope that things will be different one day and that anyone can become a friend if shown enough love and kindness. However, that's not always the case in the Mushroom World. With the battle between good and evil going on for so long, many choose to rely on the evil side for they believe it to be the winning side. Sadly, some hearts and souls can't be healed by mere compassion and understanding. But still Zinnia keeps her hopes up that things will change and that the wicked will find it in them to change after all. But besides her opinion on good and evil, Zinnia also loves flowers, hence her name. She finds them to be lovely and a treat for everyone in the world to see, she can't get enough of them. She also hears that there is a magical field filled with ones she has never seen. She hopes that one day she'll be able to visit that amazing place. In the end, Zinnia is a puppy who enjoys her easy but fun life and possibly wants to see the world one day. But if you're wondering that since I drew this, does this mean I am coming out of retirement to draw again, I can't say you should get your hopes up. At most, this is a concept that I wanted to get drawn and uploaded since it's something new. I still don't feel dedicated to do this for too often. If I am to draw something again soon, that would be quite the effort and one that I don't feel up for any time soon. But if I am to draw again, I imagine me drawing something about pirates and horses, but that's besides the point. I hope you enjoyed my redraw of Zinnia.
