This just kinda happened while I was trying a new line technique. I was having a conversation with a while back about how awesome his inking is, when he informed me that he hadn't used ink in that particular illustration, but really tight pencil darkened in PS.I decided to try it and, while I'm content with how it came out, I think I'll just stick with my ink pot and paintbrush for line work. O_O
The careful pencil shading just doesn't feel as organic to me and it took me three times as long as it would have taken me with my inkbrush. But maybe I'll try again another time... I do kinda like the effect, I just can't pull it off the way Sonion does.

I like it a lot -- as long as it took, it might be worth trying again. I always find that things that seemed like they took forever are much easier/faster once I get over that initial hurdle.

Yeah, I just feel like I can do the same thing, in a lot less time, a lot more cleanly if I stick with ink, though.

Nice drawing though. Did you remember to scan and do your adjustments at a high resolution? At least 300dpi...600 is better. Then after your contrast adjustments you bring the dpi back down.

I used 600 dpi and then adjusted the levels before reducing the size. I have no clue why the lines are so pixelated. I may re-scan and try again, because I know it shouldn't be so choppy. I'm not sure what I did wrong.

Or a pencil.
Or a tablet.
Or a pen.
Or the line tool.
Sonny's inking IS fabulous. I think I've talked to him about it a few times. I don't know how I'm ever going to make it as a comic artist, but HOPEFULLY my hand will learn to obey me.

I recommend making yourself work with a brush. For me, at least, it really helped improve control in those other areas as well. It's frustrating as hell at first, but worth it.
