Oh, yeah. It easily could have gone down this road. Hurtin his crew turns a overly friendly goofy guy into something dangerous.

Oddly enough, Nana has Ludge to thank. If it wasn't for his slime, Amaril could have made it to one of the shuttles. Still, even if he succeeded, Nana probably would've given him a good caning until she was returned. At least my misguided Reem meant well. He honestly thought he was saving his childhood friend from a dangerous human.

Someone or something probably threatened his friends, who are pretty much his family...

There are very VERY few things that can get Rover furious. And threatening his friends is at the top of the list. And yes, they are his family. I pitty the person who unlocks Rover's protective side.

Reminds me of Flyspur when he found that sleezy shopowner who had Rover's hat in "Outlawed"...

Heh. Yeah. Rover and Flyspur are very protective of one another, each in their own way. While Flyspur can manage to be only mildly intimidating even when he tries (which is EXTREMELY rare) Rover is a force to be reckoned with. He's a pretty hefty guy and with the use of that mechanical arm you really don't want to get between him and his crew.

It's his whole "Beware the Nice Guys" vibe; when meek, gentle and/or sweet-natured people finally get angry enough to snap, however briefly, it can be quite terrifying.
Case in point; in the anime "Digimon Tamers", the group leader Takato is probably the sweetest and calm-natured of the leaders in the Digimon franchise to date. Late in the show, one of his teammates has her partner killed and nearly breaks in despair. Takato is so infuriated that he transforms his own partner (basically a puppy in a dinosaur body) into the embodiment of the apocalypse and tells him to go EAT the murderer; it's one of the scariest moments in the franchise let alone "Tamers" itself.

Whoa, I wouldn't want to stand in his way if he ever made that face. o.O Whoever ticked him off, they should be getting really nervous right now.
Okay, my theory... Hmm.
Let's go with this: Rover and his gang buy a pile of cheap knick-knacks from a merchant on a remote asteroid (Flyspur feels the guy is shifty and leaves with an uneasy feeling). What neither they they nor the merchant know is that, in-between the stuff they bought, there is a treasure map. A very valuable one at that. Days later, the Nellie-Bell gets attacked by a group of vicious pirates. As Rover is the captain, they separate him from the others and question him about the map. Rover has no idea what they're talking about, so they start threatening to hurt his friends if he doesn't tell them where the map is. Rover on the other hand keeps demanding to see his friends. (insert scene from above here)
How does Rover's crew get out? Well, it seems that the pirates have overlooked Trigger, who hid inside the Nellie-Bell when it got attacked. He manages to sneak out into the pirate ship and via an air duct, he creeps into the room where Rover is held. The pirates are currently in another room, discussing what to do next. Delighted, Rover spots Trigger and tells him to search the pile knick-knacks. Of course, Trigger speeds off and retrieves the map. Meanwhile, the pirates have come back into the room, this time dragging Flyspur with them. They are holding a gun to his head and threaten to shoot him. Rover spots Trigger from the corner of his eye with the map. He then starts an over-dramatized act of breaking down and pleading with the pirates 'Okay, you got me, I have the map! I can't do this anymore!" giving Trigger the time to sneak into the room.
The little guy then jumps out into the middle of the room, pulling all the pirate's attention to him and the map. Then he lets off an electric charge. Rover sees that as his chance and changes the attachment on his arm to a flame thrower (He'd intended to get out a pair of scissors, but this is handy too) and burns through his ropes. Spouting flames, he jumps past the stunned pirates, grabs Trigger and Flyspur, shoves them out of the room and locks it behind him. Flyspur quickly leads them to where the other crew members are held. Rover opens the door by scorching the control panel on the wall. They all run back to the Nellie-Bell, followed closely by the pirates who have somehow managed to get themselves free and are now shooting wildly at their former prisoners.
By the skin of their teeth, the crew manages to escape, leaving the angry pirates well behind them. Rover takes the map back from Trigger and decides to go after that treasure himself. So, the Nellie-Bell takes course towards a new adventure.
...
Umm... Sorry, I got really carried away here XD

I love them! Your characters are so much fun and neat to look at and your story concept is fascinating as well. I'm anxious to see how you will develop it. Oh! Revamping, huh? This should be interesting!
REALLY!? Dude! That'd be so awesome I'd probably die!! I just love your art!

Very good work, as usual!
I'd also dislike very much to be on the receiving end of that! If someone took his hat, I can relate too. I wore my hat to school once and everyone was trying to take it. They quickly learned not to touch my hat! They'd, whoever They are, better learn the same thing very quickly, hat or crew!

Oh my, yes! And no you definately wouldn't. Rover's is generally a peaceful guy and gets along with most everyone but he's a force to be reckoned with when he is pushed too far. When it comes to human standards he's a pretty physically imposing figure and some of the attatchments in that arm could make him even more threatening. (provided he can find the right ones)
Very likely. He and Flyspur have been close friends for almost as long as he can remember. And while Flyspur is a lot tougher than Rover gives him credit for, Rover is fiercely protective of him.

Maybe this is during the story where Flyspurr got kidnapped; sometime after Nana smacked some sense into Rover when he was blaming himself. Now he's ready to go over whoever actually was to blame.

Well, you can bet that whatever's at the end of his mechanical arm at this point is a lot more threatening than a hand.
His hat is the only thing that he owns from before he lost his memory. So to him, it's almost like his only attatchment to humanity. It's almost like a security blanket to him.
