Description

I was so inspired by Sleeping Beauty (there are many versions of the tale, much less the Disney version) that I have decided to create a high fantasy retelling of the tale. In this case, Malager is takes the place of Maleficent in the my version. Unlike Maleficent, who was more direct, Malager cryptically tells prophecies in indirect ways. Princess Genette (pronounced like Jeanette) was predicted to prick her finger on a dark spike and fall into a deep sleep. In the original tales, it was either a splinter of a flax or a spindle on a spinning wheel. In this version, the dark spike belonged to a manticore, who used the spike as a projectile. Malager even made a caveat to the prophecy; "No man born of a woman" will lift the curse. Joyta, the fairy godmother of Princess Genette, was inexperienced, but with the help of mages, she was able to get her confidence back as the centuries rolled by due to the help of a prince named Shean, who was born from a cesarean section, and not technically "born of a woman" adding a little twist to the prophecy (I borrowed that prophecy twist from Macbeth by Shakespeare).

Personality:

His arrogant, ruthless, sadistic personality made him like Lord Voldemort from Harry Potter. He aspires to be ruler of Ryland, the Continent in which the tale is set, willing to slaughter or enslave all who get in his way.

Weakness:

Lord Malager has one weakness. The black crystal ball he holds in his left hand, the Night Crystal, is similar to the One Ring of Sauron or Voldemort's horcruxes: destroy that, and you destroy him. Therefore, Malager is fiercely protective of the crystal ball.
