It was bugging me to. Finally...a decent picture of non-chibi Axel 
I'm still new and experimenting with hatching and cross-hatching techniques...so, excuse me if I ruined this picture with my lack of skills...

The cross hatching looks fine! I know there's another cross hatching 'style' in which the cross hatching is random and doesn't follow a 'grid', kinda like how you did the hood.
Anyways, I like the cross hatched Axel.

I don't know if it's an actual style, it's just something my art teacher told us that moves the picture from being 'rigid'. For me it requires too much thinking to be random with the lines so I typically stick with the cross hatching that follows the shape of the object
