Yaburetayume - "shattered dreams"

The air was cold. Alone in the isolation of the night's silence, the warmth of her blood made Nichiren almost want to empty what little was left in his stomach. His green eyes, though misty with tears could see Ryoma in the distance, cradling a dislocated shoulder besides the woman who had saved them. Yet none of them seemed to matter. Cradled in his arms, the broken figure of his kunoichi teammate, was sheltered in his shaking arms.
"Nichi..."
Her voice was frail, the sweetness of it broken and contorted. Nichiren knew that his precious teammate was walking towards her death, her soul growing wings to float away. He knew there was no such thing as a beautiful body when death claimed the soul. There was no romantic corpse. Death was death. The flesh would rot, the bones would follow, silken hair would mat into the soil. It was the soul and the life that was beautiful, life that was cherished and the soul that was nurtured.
"I'm sorry Nichi...I don't think I'm going to make it..."
He couldn't say anything to her. All he could do was hold her fading soul as tightly as he could against him, hoping his own warmth would warm her cold body and bring her back to him. The slickness of crimson red run over his skin. Her killer, that man, he had escaped. There would be no vengeance. No way to save his precious Yuzuki. This was then end of them both. All memories of their childhood, their time as genin. Her smile, her laugh, her soft and reassuring gaze. It would all be gone.
"Just sleep Yuzuki...I'll be there when you wake," Nichiren whispered to her soothingly as Ryoma finally made his way over to them, his eyes darkened with what could be considered to be the first display of emotion in the whole event.
"Nichiren. You know she's..."
"Leave him be," the older kunoichi whispered, coming up behind the injured shinobi, her eyes grim but understanding, "leave him be."
So in the coldness, Nichiren cradled the dying figure of his beloved Yuzuki. He knew that she was gone. She could have been sleeping. She lay there in the half-light of the crescent moon and stars on that cold night. She was utterly still, her eyes finally closed as though she had finished admiring the beauty of heavens above her. Her shell pink lips were now stained blue and her pale skin was now washing a sickly shade of grey and it was like she were made of wax.
And the woman he loved was gone.

I needed to draw the moment that Yuzuki passed on. Poor Nichiren. I love these little darlings too much but I feel like such a bad mother for destroying the lives of so many of my babies. But this had to be done
