It's not the skin colour these people hate it's the people. Changing the colour of that skin will not gain approval just contempt. Take for example two fighters...one fighter is stood victorious the other defeated on the floor, the floored one begs and pleads for mercy the winner at first he feel sorry for the loser then he feels pitty but asthe begging continues he feels contempt and finaly hate.
It's intresting that first tan product is called coconut.☺

ah, I see what you are saying, ya that too. Yea, I just think it is crazy. But then again after the black facing slam lol I don't think there is a comeback in the fight without being worried of being stabbed. Although I think that is why the Asian culture might be so popular to attach to for others wanting to try out something else besides their own without being hassled or having much of a backlash on.

For better or for worse, the majority tends to dictate what is the ideal aesthetic for beauty. So inevitably because the people of North America, Europe, East Asia, etc. are primarily light-skinned, naturally artwork will lean towards the idea that the default assumption is for artwork of people to be light-skinned too, with darker skin colors being a variation, or "tan," of that idea. I think that's why you see artwork of characters who have brown skin, but their facial features and design would suggest that they're of European or East Asian descent rather than of African, Native North/South American, Aboriginal, etc. ancestry. Because they are not supposed to be "ethnic," they're basically just tanned to look a little visually exotic - sort of like having unusually colored hair or eyes - yet still remaining within the natural human spectrum. That is to say, if a non-human character is meant to look exotic, you might give them purple hair, blue skin, or yellow eyes. But if the character is supposed to be human yet be within realistic human color possibilities, tanned skin is one way to show that they are exotic. After all, exotic is just another way of saying "foreign but in an appealing way."
Anyhow, what I'm saying is, I think that in artwork at least, a lot of the "tanned" characters are really just a visual shorthand for making a character look different or exotic. That, or to imply certain unsaid ideas that we have about such skin color. Just as pale skin is a often meant to convey either mysteriousness, purity, or on the other hand illness, darker skin may sometimes be used to represent athleticism (with the assumption you're out in the sun a lot), danger, and sexuality.
There was an article I recall reading that talked more about the unsaid assumptions that some men and women were found to have on each other based on skin tone: www.independent.co.uk/news/sci… Perhaps some of those ideas also come up in art as well.

Oh ya, I know people will draw character more that fit where they are like japan or Europe. That is not the issue. The thing I am mostly making aware is tan characters. There is a thin line, because some of those characters wont have any tan lines at all and still be called tan and have tribal clothing. I can find a lot of art like this. Besides most tans now days are not achieved by being in the sun because of skin cancer and harm it has done over the years. Most are by tanning bed or spray on tan. I know some go by the sun but in reality 90% percent of tans don't look like that or majority have sun burn or rash from they rays. In reality...I myself have been told by people they want to get tan like me. But my complexion is not a tan. As for facial features like even mine they are Asian features but I'm still African decent. ref of me and my friend who is Asian gyazo.com/03401f7e02f8fde3f08d… . I know a lot of times without even tanning people have called brown skin, exotic, so they do tan for this effect. Ya, mostly it is to fit out differently in other countries that does not have a lot of people of color or different ethnics...so ya it becomes exotic to tan your skin . Like in japan www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Qe4AZ… . I know people will still continue to do it because to them it is exotic and a fashion. But for people like myself and others when you see characters like img1.ak.crunchyroll.com/i/spir… some say shes darkskin and some say she not darkskin, shes tan.. I use her because she is well known. But there is tons of art who have characters just the same and say she is tan and not darkskin. When you art putting your artwork out on display it is now being publicized and everyone is now looking. How you edit and make your character for you, you can call it what you want in your eye. But what it actually really appears when someone else looks at it and it looks actually like them in every way...might be really what it is.. a natural tan from the sun is not going to look like the tan pictures I have posted from spray tans. Without having burns a day before or any side effects from heat stroke.

I've never been a fan of the term 'person of color' personally, because its only associated with one color spectrum.
I do fully agree black is beautiful, and I feel beauty standards should not be the same for everyone as some people can pull off certain looks other cant, and nothing is stopping from said looks from being equally nice on their own strengths.
I've never tanned any of my characters, but I did depict one as black that typically is not (she's not a human, but I always consider her relative ethnicity to humans to be the equivilent to black, so I drew her as such on a human what-if).
I feel inspired to draw one of my darker skinned characters now, but I only got three so far.

No problem.
That was a weird thing to hear about regarding the 'black tan' or whatever you wanna call it. If there is a positive to take away from the problem, it shows there are people who find darker skin appealing (I look at it as a counterbalance to the bleaching you mentioned).
I think I know who i'll commission from you finally. Lol
