Pencil sketch colored with Paint Tool SAI using the circular brush and a WACOM tablet. An art trade with This is her OC, Nocturne or “Nox,” who is described as “…a quiet, mellow pony who has a mischievous side and loves animals and adventure. Her cutie mark is an antique lantern, symbolizing her empathy and talent for helping others through the darkest times.” When I read Nox’s description, I couldn’t help but think of the promo line from the old Sega CD ads for Lunar II: Eternal blue, “In the darkest hour, hope springs eternal.” I had an image of a lone pony standing in the wilderness, lighting the way through the gloom. Note that she sports a medieval style unicorn tail. This picture was a lot of fun to paint, especially since I haven’t done a night picture in a long time.
