Pencil sketch colored in Paint Tool SAI. Twilight and Dash reading together. You know, I may have to revise my opinion of Appledash and put Twidash on top. Twilight is so adorkable.I wanted to have this out in time for the release of A Memory of Light, book 14 of the Wheel of Time series, but that didnβt happen. Although itβs from an earlier book, I was imagining Rainbow dash reading this line when I drew her:
"Cadsuane," he said softly, "do you believe that I could kill you? Right here, right now, without using a sword or the Power? Do you believe that if I simply willed it, the Pattern would bend around me and stop your heart? By . . . . coincidence?" Buck Yeah!
Edit: Gah, totally forgot to add the feather! So much for subtlety.

Indeed. Just a little light reading (well, maybe ~900+ pages is light for twilight, though I think RD has the qualities that make for a geek).

Assuming your question is asked in good faith, yes, this is a βshippingβ picture, but obviously not an overt one. The blue feather is there for those who get the reference, but it isnβt necessary to get it to enjoy the picture. Indeed, as you said, βTo me it just looks like Twi enjoys having RD having an interest in books,β which is an interpretation that is both perfectly fine and in no way mutually exclusive with shipping.
Now, as to why everything is ship relatedβ¦I cannot speak for everyone, but my guess is that it stems from the inherent hilarity of pairing up colorful ponies (Iβm taking it as a given that you understand that this is all done with tongue firmly planted against the cheek), particularly in the case of the Mane Six where you have a whole set of diametrically opposed personalities to work with (the nerd and the jock, the country girl and the sophisticate, etc.). It is a rich vain from which to extract humor/drama.

Thank you for explaining this in a mature manner... Honestly I did not expect a reply from the artist himself/herself. (pick whatever applies to you) honestly I don't get enough chances to talk/type with people on this subject in a productive way very often.
I understand that some of the people who enjoy "Shipping" do it for fun... even I enjoy putting characters together for interesting reactions (though rarely is it a romantic connection, and most often with characters I have crafted for myself.) Most of my issue with "Shipping" is that it is all romantic connections, or at least a vast majority of it has "Romance" as the connection. Diving further in to that, it seems that people use the "romance" aspect because it is so much easier than crafting a more dynamic relationship between two (or more) beings.
(But my true dislike of "Shipping" stems from Wreak it Ralf [by Pixar], when people "Shipped" the two main characters [the little girl andΒ Ralf] in a romantic tone. My perception of there relation was a "Father, daughter" connection [my most favorite] after that I realized that what "Shippers" do is change the character to fit there own twisted minds instead of diving into what is present, or making the character more rounded.)
[that ramble was pointless I know but I feel that a little bit of perspective was needed for my dislike of "Shipping"]

I've never read the Wheel Of Time series. It's been on my to-read list for ages, though.

It's a good series, but you better set aside plenty of time. At least you won't have to go through the pain of waiting between books though
