contrast is a bit servere, losing a lot of details

but a bit and dodging and burning and this bad boy will sing

you are second person to mention it. i liked the way it came out. the subject did not have a whole lot of detail to begin with but maybe i'll play with it some more.

what i like to do with buildings like that is to burn the shadows about seven percent and dogde the highlights about ten percent, dont mess with the midtones and the image will reggeain any loss in dtail, try focus on the morter between the bricks

i think it might be haunted or so the tour guide said. this is the Charles Fort that i mentioned before where i almost froze to death. it was hard to get a feel of the place when your extremities are numb and all you can think about is pouring the hot chocolate all over yourself just to warm up...haha

Or hot toddies inside yourself to warm up....

I just saw the updated B/W that you did and
love that one also...

I think I even commented that it looked haunted,
or haunting...and is a wonderful capture...

either would have worked i was so desperate i was willing to try anything...hehe. i never tried a hot toddie i wonder if i can find a bar that can mix one just to try.

thank you. i tried the lighter contrast to see which would look better. although i'm still liking the high contrast better.

i need your opinion. do you think it has too much contrast? i was actually happy with the way it came out but i had two people mention that it is a bit too contrasty.

Yes, I was going to say so...but I didn't want you to think I was picking on you. Less contrast will help to bring the sky in a bit more too. And then you can burn it a little to make it even more dramatic. I notice you tend to like high contrast...I do too...but not to the point of blowing out highlight detail.

the sky was very bland and the only way the clouds came out is with the dark contrast. all right three against one, i lose.

Hell no you don't. If this is your vision and style...stay with it. It's a hard contrast image and supports the subject matter suitably. This high contrast doesn't work for every subject is all I meant. The "bald" sky can be corrected if there is detail there.

if you look at the color picture you will see there are not a lot of clouds in the sky except a small part in the corner. so the sky didn't have a whole lot to work with.
i'm trying to improve as a photographer. i haven't been doing it seriously for long, only a little over a year or so.

and you do...each time you care about what you are doing when taking a photograph. You already have many wonderful photos...you have a good eye and will only get better as you get hold of the tech end of this profession/hobby.

so far it's a hobby but wouldn't mind if it would eventually turn out as a profession. thanks for the encouraging words.
