Description Another Cosgrove-Hall cartoon from the 90's. Not as witty or funny as DANGERMOUSE or AVENGER PENGUINS, but it's not meant to be.Β It still has plenty of charm and originality to make it worth it.

Huh....never heard of this one before. I like the composition of this picture though. .3.

Quite a funny look you've given to the characters.

Fantomcat was a bit darker than previous CH shows (maybe The Legends of Treasure Island was an inspiration?). I've heard that FC had parallels with Gargoyles like Avenger Penguins had parallels with Biker Mice from Mars.

Avenger Penguins...Witty?! 'sigh' I guess you had to have lived in the UK to live the Golden Age that was the 70's, 80's and EARLY 90's, when David Jason was around to voice characters for the majority.

Penguins still had Mike McShane though, one of the best Whose Line?-ers in my opinon! And mainstay Jimmy Hibbert of course - can't fault him either. Agreed, Penguins was probably the last CH show I recall actually making me laugh to this day. The Biker Mice thing is pure coincidence since both shows came out within a week of each other.

I know, it was a 100% coincidence, but you can't deny the similarities. But the show did have it's moments, I just don't see it as memorable as anything from the Thames era. But that's just me. The only show that seemed to be really successful after the Thames era was The Foxbusters, as many fans still talk about that series.

Still, I'm glad it at least got a DVD release. Now if they'd only do the same for Victor & Hugo - that series gets a raw deal.

Same here. Since it was from the Thames era, the rights are currently with Fremantle Media, and it's probably going to take some serious fan demand perhaps to finally see a complete set. Hopefully one day though there might be, considering that Count Duckula has appeared as a guest character in some episodes. Currently only one episode is on DVD as part of a compilation DVD with other Cosgrove Hall shows.Β

I managed to track doen almost all of them and they're available on YT if that's any consolation. It also annoyed me that the chose to re-release 'Panda-Monium' - an episode die-hard fans like me will have on the VHS anyway.

I think that was because it was one of the earliest episodes, if not, the first episode that aired I believe, or at least that was the intention, though I know the first episode I saw was 'Automanic Transmission' and I'm unsure but that episode could have been the first one aired. I also have that VHS tape too.

Fair enough. While I still enjoy the show, that's entirely your opinion and I respect that.

Which one, Phantomcat or Avenger Penguin?. I do admit I liked it when I was younger, despite the parallels it had with another show; 'cough' Biker Mice From Mars 'cough'. This show, I didn't really watch when I was younger, just because. But a LOT of people here in the UK would agree that the period I mentioned was Cosgrove Hall's golden age, but when Thames Television, aided their productions and before a certain Prime Minister stuck her big nose into affairs that didn't concern her. Long story short, she got rid of Thames and ended their partnership with Cosgrove Hall, thus ending their golden age.

Probably the last of the CH shows I recall taking my time to watch. You always do them justice with your quirky style and I can agree that it definatley had intentionally less humour than most of their other work.

It would've been a bit better and made more sense if it focused more on comedy to help balance the wacky-looking characters, or maybeΒ made the characters look darkerΒ and put more emphasis on the adventure and mystery. But as is, it's still entertaining thanks to some good jokes and wonderful designs.

As a kid, I recall not laughing as much as other CH stuff, but enjoyed the change of pace nonetheless.
