For the longest time, Disney's 1995 animated drama epic POCAHONTAS has always been my least favorite film from the House O' Mouse. Awful? Far from it....just never caught my interest. Every time I watched it (which isn't that too often), I was just as let down as I always was.

But then I caught the film on TV not too long ago, the first time I've seen it in years. Maybe it's just I needed to see from a fresh-minded perspective of an adult, but there was more to admire this time around. I still loved the beautiful colours, I remember plenty of the imagery after all these years, Meeko and the rest of the animals are cute, I like...MOST of the songs ("Savages" has plenty of energy, it just bludgeons you over the head with it's non-subtle lyrics), and the bittersweet ending is surprisingly well-done. We're always so used to happy endings where the hero ends up with the one they love, and while Pocahontas and John Smith do love each other, they must go back to their own separate worlds.

I wouldn't call it a classic or even a favorite of mine...it still doesn't have the same dramatic power of THE LION KING or isn't nearly as engaging as other Disney films, but just the fact that I like it a little more nowadays is good enough for me. I dunno, I just love Disney so much, I can't really be hard on any of their films. To me, every main animated film Disney has made, past or present, always has something to enjoy - yes, even HOME ON THE RANGE.
