For the top tentacle-things I cut some tie wraps (like you'd use on a bread bag) and molded the clay really thin around them. The bottom ones I did the same thing, but with craft wire.
And thanks!!

Haha, yeah. I've been wanting to jump into LoZ fanart. This has MOST DEFINITELY inspired me to do so (:
And perhaps even try some clay as well? |D

Go for it! This was actually my first time using clay, other than some crappy pottery stuff in elementary school. XD
It's pretty easy, as long as you have some sculpting tools and something to use as a support in your sculpture. This guy is really skinny, so there are wires going throughout the clay to hold him up.

How did you get the wire into the wood? I may have to use a different sort of clay, cuz I'd like to be able to dry it and make little sculptures.
He's really well done! It's hard to believe it's not professional!
What types of tools would you recommend?

I bent the ends of the wire where the feet and hands are, then bent some nails over it with a hammer to keep it down.
I have this kit for my tools:

I'm not sure what half of them are called, though. It came with my portfolio for class. XD
And thanks again!

Is this the final status or will it be painted? Because it already looks amazing but would look even more amazing painted! Love it!

ChosenOfKagami In reply to HylianDragonCatty [2010-09-26 20:06:29 +0000 UTC]
It won't be painted, unfortunately. This type of clay is non-hardening, so it's always going to be soft and a little moist. Can't be painted on. =w=
It's just used for sculpting characters for things like animation, which is what I'm going to school for.
Anyway, thanks for the comment! I appreciate it! >w<
