The truly greatest who boxed at a time when the heavyweight division was crammed full of the most lethal opponents- Liston, Frazier, Norton, Foreman etc. Ali proved himself time and time again, over a long timespan, including enforced temporary 'retirement' due to his wrongful jailing for legitimate conscientious objection to the Vietnam War, against probably the toughest 'peer group' in boxing history. Tyson at his peak was excellent, using 'combinations' rarely seen before except in the days of Jack Dempsey, but Tyson would have surely been an also-ran against the likes of Foreman and Norton. Ali was , pound for pound, the truly greatest heavyweight. Perhaps Marciano has a claim to being the second greatest.
Ali was a noble and brave human being too, as he again proved throughout his life in political and humanitarian terms. I am not one for vicarious grieving for celebrities that I've never met, but in the case of the great Muhammad Ali, I will admit to being feeling choked when I heard of his passing. The world has lost a true hero. RIP Muhammad Ali.
