Description Muhammed Ali painting of acrylic on watercolor board with airbrushed background. Created for a limited edition lithograph that was signed by Muhammed Ali and me. This has become one of my all-time favorite paintings. I wanted to capture the different aspects of his style of boxing. A great person as well.

that is absolutly amazing!!! i've been trying to get an answer to this question for a while and i think you might know, if you paint a celeb, do you need permission before you sell prints?

The simple answer is yes. But in some circles if you create a one of a kind piece you do not. Original giclees fall under this premiss. As long as you keep it under 500 prints. But first the question of the photography comes into play. If you use photos that you did not take then you must get permission and in most cases pay for their use. I hope this answers some of your questions. For most of my work I did it for publishing houses and they took care of all those issues.

Here is a link to a website that deals with Canadian copyright. It should answer your questions. I hesitate giving any advise without knowing all aspects of projects or works, so I would ask you to refer to this link. Let me know what you find out. Just copy and paste this into your url:

Thank you for the comment on my Ali painting. It was a thrill to meet him when we were signing the lithographs back in 1989. It has been one of my favorite paintings and moments in my career. My goal was to capture the essence and the career of this great prize fighter. I am glad you like it.

Thanks for the compliment, I worked hard over the years to come up with a style that would accomplish what I wanted to say in a balanced and effective design. My college instructor saw my raw talent and told me to never stop working on the design aspect of what I did.
