Description I suppose its no coincidence that I was playing Shadow of the Colossus recently... So in keeping with my tradition of drawing things that are big, I wanted to draw a creature of some kind.

At some point during the creation of this image, the creature had a minor disagreement with a nearby town, so like any reasonable 1000 ft tall monster made out of stone and unseen forces, he destroyed it. I'm not really sure what the town did to earn its wrath, but I'm sure there's a good story behind it.

Great concept, comparing the size of the creature compared to the town. Interewsting appearance. Good artwork.

Probably the coolest stone golem (or whatever it is) I've seen.

I just like how huge, yet thin, it is.

Well done.

Man just the sheer scope of it compared to the town and the fact that it breaks the cloud line is amazing, but man I would really, REALLY hate to be a citizen in that town. Makes me scared just thinking about it but yeah your right right righteous0warrior it would be a bitch to take down. Amazing work man

wow thats a really creative freaky looking collosus but the thing is. that i would hate for it to be in the game because of the simple fact that i would be to scared to try and take it on be sides i would have no idea how to beat or even climb it. excellent artwork

this piece is wicked cool. dude.

Maybe the shadow of the creature can be more obvious, it will bring more lifely.
and the cloud, I think you want to make it more layering, the layer can be more and more obvious, it make bring out the dramatic feel.

By the way, this 1 damn cool. Fav.

Awesome, I love your work.

And the people in the town probably didn't give it enough to eat, because for a giant powerful doom thing it looks very skinny.

Entirely their faults.

you might have a point there... although he might be trying to watch his figure...

DragenEyez [2008-08-27 03:49:41 +0000 UTC]

I love all the texture and variance in this piece. I've been getting kind of really tired of the plastic doll look. Also, I love the scale... even though the picture itself isn't that large, the town looks so childlike in comparison, and the colossus looms so tall it almost seems like he's piercing through the clouds with their formation. Gorgeous stuff.

I also think I may know why he's so upset. I noticed that there are a lot of big spiky rocks around him...but apart from where the town is the area is pretty flat, ne? Did the villagers build a town in the middle of his bed? Or did he need a firmer pillow?

ChrisBeckerArt In reply to DragenEyez [2008-08-27 10:02:33 +0000 UTC]

I know I'd be somewhat miffed if I came home to find that a village had sprung up in my bed. Maybe they stole his pillow too.

DragenEyez In reply to ChrisBeckerArt [2008-08-27 14:26:44 +0000 UTC]

What mean villagers; pillow stealers... No wonder so many giants aren't too fond of little scrawny humans.

Attelocin [2008-08-27 03:45:19 +0000 UTC]

Hmm... that thing would be a lot harder to kill using a "Shadow of the Colossus" method. It looks like it's be way harder than even the last boss, regular pain in the ass he is...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChrisBeckerArt In reply to Attelocin [2008-08-27 10:13:56 +0000 UTC]

yeah, I think Wander would just give up if he came across this colossus, and find better things to do with his time...

samjo989 [2008-08-27 03:26:23 +0000 UTC]

Cool, nice work I really like the texture on the rocks (I suppose the "blurriness" cna be explained by perspective -- things looking blurry as they get further away?)

One thing I thought was really missing in this was a sense of scale. I just don't get the sense that this is a huge creature, even with the obviously tiny town at its feet. Again, I think it's because of the perspective; the way the viewer's eyelevel seems to be around the neck of this creature (rather than its ankle or something, as would be the case if it was huge).

I don't presume to anticipate your intentions, nor do I mean to sound critical -- it's just what I happened to think when I saw this

On a completely different note, I'm noticing a similar colour scheme between this and "Capital"...

ChrisBeckerArt In reply to samjo989 [2008-08-27 10:12:39 +0000 UTC]

I suppose the creature could in fact be no bigger than a small child, and the town might be made of legos... Also, yeah, I tend to favor golden hues for castles, rocky stuff, and things that are old. The next image I'm planning will have a similar color scheme, but the one after that will likely be different.

samjo989 In reply to ChrisBeckerArt [2008-08-28 02:17:29 +0000 UTC]

Well the golden hues seem to work well! I'm interested to see what you'll come up with next though
