Description Something a little different.

The new show seems to be very much about looking to the future, rather than the past, that said wouldn't this be nice to see?Β

As well as me liking this picture, it also made me follow you on DeviantArt.

Such a striking & nostalgic picture. I'm excited that the new Picard series will be set past Nemesis in the timeline, but I can't help but think that somewhere along the shows run we will see a scene like this. Riker & Troi are on the show, so it's not entirely impossible.

Again, beautiful artwork!

It's very sad seeing the Enterprise-D like this, She didn't deserve this after seven long years.

Indeed.

I never understood that they just dismissed that fine ship, as if the last seven years had been nothing.

Yeah, I was devastated when I saw it happen at the tender age of One year old (This comes secondhand from my parents) I consider the Enterprise-D as much a character as any of her crew. What the Production crew thought was "There aren't enough mounting points on the model and it's really heavy, not to mention the sets weren't built for the silver screen, maybe it's time for a new ship."

They could have made another Galaxy Class model, IF they had understood what they where doing.

But i always get the impression the ppl. in charge don't have any clue or basic understanding about what makes Star Trek good and stand out from other Sci Fi francises.

Conn1321 In reply to Nhlaqgor [2019-06-23 15:05:50 +0000 UTC]

The real world reason they destroyed the D was because the ship model was really hard to use in filming and they wanted a ship that was easier to use to complex shots. also that really needed an action scene as the only action in the film otherwise was 3 old men fighting on a cliff.

Sadly the E model was only used in First Contact and the collision scene in Nemesis. The rest of the time it was CGI.Β

To be honest the basic premise of that movie was flawed.

They didn't had the balls to make a true TNG movie and got Shatner in the boat, because the feared that the audience wouldn't want to see a TNG movie (altough TNG was sucessful on TV).

The should have made a true TNG story, maybe something similar like "the Defector" and leave out the Nexus crap completely.

Regarding the Galaxy, yes maybe it was harder to film, so what? Those guys get paid a lot of money to do their job. But it is not their job to dictate what happens in universe.

What i find really sad about it is that i would have LOVED to see the Ent D in ST:8, 9 and 10 (when they have enough $$$ to show that ship in action). But now the Galaxy will always be remembered as being some sort of luxury liner by many so called "fans", who don't know much about the background of the Galaxy Class.Β  Β

I remember how indifferent i felt when i saw ST:8 and that new ship being partly "borgified". I couldn't have cared less. Even wordse at the end of the movie when Picard suggests that the ship is going to be destroyed ("there are many more letters in the alphabet.")

I really felt like "Yes! Get rid of that ugly bucket and get me MY Enterprise back! dammit".Β  Β

In contrast to that, seeing the Ent -D instead in the Movies, would have had a MUCH bigger emotional impact for the audience (at least those who liked TNG), especially back then when TNG (series) was on TV not long ago.

But i must say that this is the time when Star Trek began to slowly go down for me (but it took several years, but it started back then imo).

the only problem with this image, and dont get me wrong , this is epic, BUT as we see at the end of the star trek generation , there are rescue and salvage ship in the area. this enterprise would had been taken from the surface and not left to have the locals dig it up.

AL-Proto [2019-04-28 15:57:30 +0000 UTC]

Somehow, this entire scene saddens me.

1. Current Star Trek franchise do not bother with continuity (The JJ-verse, I can stand it, since it was forthcoming that it is an alternate timeline).

2. Thus, the old Star Trek is not being maintained.

3. Despite the Picard series may not be canon, at least it was forthcoming.

4. There's a small hope of light that somehow, the old Star Trek will be maintained, but not in the near future.

5. The small hope, maybe, the Picard series may turn out better than STD.

6. The small hope, is the also The Orville too.

I really wish that you so called 'Star Trek Purists' would stop with the "continuity" bullshit. Star Trek has always been loose when it comes to that. It didn't start with Discovery and thank God they didn't listen to you belly achers and renewed Discovery for season 3... HA HA!

You people should leave the 1990's Trek in the past. The way we original series fans had to leave the 1960's Trek behind in the '80's when TNG started. Grow up and just go for the ride. Until YOU can produce a Star Trek TV show, STFU with bashing Discovery.Β

Picard will be a good show. Different from Discovery, but good none the less...

AL-Proto In reply to StalinDC [2019-04-30 07:27:30 +0000 UTC]

Dude, not being rude, but I do know Star Trek do have continuity gaps, but most of them can be corrected with a theory or an assumption. However, not with STD.

FYI, I grew up with TOS reruns, and was able to transition to TNG easily. Does TNG perspective changed the look of the Constitution Class? Or change the uniform of the 23rd century? The answer is no.

Does Enterprise, with all its technology advancement in CG, does it change the look of the Constitution Class, or change the uniform of the 23rd century? The answer is again, no. They kept it.

Try that with STD--the entire show.

Another note, STD is more of shoving down politically-right agenda down everyone's throat, rather than making the view asked themselves.

Of course Picard show will be tolerable, since it's was forthcoming about it not being canon.

Maybe like halfway through, Picard and his motley crew need a place to hide out in.

THE RETURN mentioned that Starfleet had been busy reclaiming the downed saucer section, but it's nice to see something a little more poignant and homely that speaks volumes of the passage of time.

(Including any bird poop that is on the captain's chair.)
