looks fantastic . . . can you say much about xsi? I've been wanting to learn some, but I'd rather hear the pros and cons first. I was hoping there was a free student trial version, but I guess thats not the case ~

Well, xsi is great, personally I have been starting to use Maya a bit more again instead though. But that's mostly a personal preference for the Maya UI, XSI is clearly a bit better at modeling/rendering then Maya.
Don't know if there is a free version of XSI :/

Looks great overall, but the lights on the wings make very little sense. How can a glowing light have a darker value than the plain wing right around it?
