Description The second of my series of seasonal bonsai trees, started in Autumn with Blushing Bonsai . Each one will be submitted at the time it's particular season is at it's peak (for those in Summer right now, remember it's winter where I am) This was delayed a little due to other stuff like my Birthday deviation, a club pack entry, and my 100th deviation, all of which had to be done first. Though I saved a little time because I started it a wile back, and finishe dit recently (thats how I was able to submit it so soon after my last lol)

The scene was intended to be similar, but not the same as the other one, the tree is noticably different with it's cascading shape, and the background has changed too. It's not supposed to be the same tree in the same spot, just a similar "idea" over all.

Other seasonal trees:
Spring - Blossoming Bonsai
Summer - Basking Bonsai
Autumn - Blushing Bonsai

I can juse imagine a snow fox pawing it's way across that tree and raising it's head up high. Like it's the mightiest of creatures.

Lol calming may not be the best way to describe a night out in a blizzard perfect sleeping weather though, nothing's better for that than a cold night

I think I know more about tree's than people...it leads to a very lonely life Glad you liked mine, yours are probably the best metal ones I've seen. Kinda surreal as we typically think of metal wires as a symbol of technology and everything that's really far from nature, yet in other ways its directly used with it, like wiring a bonsai into shape

incredible... the frosted leaves on the tree look as delicate as thin glass and the mountains remind me of a scene from my book... wait, just ignore that lol
and the way you did the snow is so soft that its like fluffy down...

The leaves in this frozen state probably are as delicate at thin glass frost and snow makes amazing forms when it "grows" on leaves...not that I see much of it in Australia

I've always wanted to see snow, but you're right - there isn't much of it in Australia... we're the 'lucky' ones who get the heat and humidity... oh well, they don't call us a sunburnt country for nothing ^.^

i was looking through your gallery and wen i saw this i thought it was amazing! Everyone says that 3D is hard, and i believe them, but, you seem to have a knack for it ^^ cant wait to see more!

Chromattix In reply to MynameisHitsugaya [2008-11-08 05:26:58 +0000 UTC]

3D is around the same difficulty level as 2D digital art, I wouldn't say it's harder or easier, but it usually takes longer to learn sinc eit "behaves" in a very different way to 2D art. Your'e not just going up and down and side to side like you would in a drawing, but rather have a "virtual world" to build aupon and arrange things wherever you want until your'e happy with it.

the particular program I used here helps making natural scenery and trees easier to to create, but if I want buildings and such in there, that will require the usual 3D method, which can take a while thanks for faving!

MynameisHitsugaya In reply to Chromattix [2008-11-08 21:12:33 +0000 UTC]

What program do you use?

My parents think all these programs are a waste of money and what not, they say theyre stupid and a waste. But i like the programs(like photoshop, painter, ect.) cuz theyre fun to use. Last year in 7th we got to use phjotoshop for a school project and after that i tried to convince my parents to let me get some new programs for our comp, but i got the usual lecture of how its a waste XD lol. We got to use lots of different comp. programs as part of Media Arts curriculum, in fact the school brought it back for 8th grade! i cant wait to see what we get to do this year!
I think 3D design is cool because of the fact you get to sort of "build" on a surface.
Well, it may take a while, but it sure pays off! I cant wait to see more! ^^

For my 2D illustrations, which are usually the fantasy-like ones, the space ones, and the fan-art deviations. I use mostly, or fully Photoshop...sometimes a bit of 3D, but thos sort of things can be done with Photoshop alone if you have the skill. the landscapes like this here are done in Vue 6, which is a 3D program that is intended for making realistic landscapes. But I also use Cinema 4D for "general 3D stuff" which is a good "starter" program, but rarely used in the production of professional work.

Your parents are probably just old-fashioned, and think its a waste of money because a "program" is not a physical, tangible thing, and that many older people don't consider it "art" unless it was hand-painted with a brush, so the argument "But I'll use them to make artworks" will probably fail too...If you maybe show them some examples of really good Digital art on DA and tell them that with practise, this is what you could end up doing, it might help persuade them...and if That dosn't work - well Christmas is coming up

You already have more than me though. All I had at age 14 was Paint Shop Pro 6 (which I liked at the time, but it can't do half the stuff that Photoshop can) and my high school didn't teach Media arts AT ALL! so I learned almost everything I know by myself, expect for the Cinema 4D stuff which I owe to my Digital Media teacher

MynameisHitsugaya In reply to Chromattix [2008-11-09 16:18:22 +0000 UTC]

I used photoshop last eyar and found out u can make lots and lots of different things ^^ The teacher for Media Arts said I was good at using the program, we had to figure out most of the stuff ourselves... I just wish I still had the work I did with Photoshop *sigh*

Not so much "old-fashioned" my parents just think its a waste because my dad says I suck at drawing T_T Nice way to motivate me! ...not rly...He said even if I learned how to use a comp. program it wouldn't do me any good T_T Again, great motivation for practice! XD

For 7th we had Media Arts for 1 term, Arts for 1 term, Music for 1 term, and another media arts for 1 term. The second media arts isn't like w/ photoshop and wat not, its about how to write lab reports. But, i must say, I didn't mind the lab reports because we did lots of fun things in that class! We made hot air balloons(sone went so high they weren't visible, others came right down...one landed on me, and they weren't little or light) XD

Christmas is comming up and my parents said they were gonna get me a lap top w/ some programs on it, but idunno.... XD They said theyd get me one cuz I'm writing a book...my friends said it was a great accomplishment for a 14 yr./ old. ^^ It's like 520 + pages, and theres a volume 2 to it ^^
Srry for the long rant! X__x

I had to figure most things out myself too. I learned the foundation of my 3D skills from my teacher last year, but by then, the Photoshop stuff we also learned was stuff I already knew and picked up slowly over time (I'm not complaining, it's awesome to say you are self-taught, and I had a huge advantage over the other students ) And yeah, in Grads 7 and 8 we "rotated" betweem different art forms and music too, it sucked when Visual arts was over and I had to do others - like cooking and sewing for the remaining terms of the year, I lost the motivation to even go to school then...Damn, it's hard to beleive that was 6 years ago already

Over 520 pages is very good! I couldn't even milk out an essay longer than 2 and a half Maybe your talent is in story writing instead

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MynameisHitsugaya In reply to Chromattix [2008-11-10 22:43:06 +0000 UTC]

XD I hafta agree, to say you're self taught is kinda fun...but its also kinda bragging XD

XD cooking and sewing...we didnt hafta do that. Alle we did was art(we drew pretty pics..one of which is in my gallery right now i think) some with pastels, others painted. You hafta addmit, sewing isn't soooo bad..I sew all the time, I even make clothes and costumes!Already at 14 and I dont need patterns! ^^
Lost motivsation to go to school!? O noes! I listened to my mp3 during classes, i hid an earbud with my hair all day long XD And it worked...until I got my hair cut...

Essays aren't fun. Unless its somethin i wanna write, chances are, yea, i'll get an A, but i wont really care O_o Writing is my passion! XD Drawing too^^

Creating 3D environments is the most
difficult to me. You seem to have
nearly mastered it. keep up the
great work.

Chromattix In reply to ShaneNewville [2008-09-08 03:58:41 +0000 UTC]

Eeveryone has different "feilds" they excel in, you'd be the kind who would do general modelling (which is often more importamt, especially if you get involved in a 3D animated movie that needs good characters) Environments like hills and trees are often murder to model from scratch, thats why I use "Vue 6" which allows you to create a scene like this in a matter of hours (it would be even quicker if I had a faster laptop) Since it's specifically made for landscapes rather than general modelling (even then, you can import objects modelled in other programs, and put them in a realistic environment in Vue)

Hey that reminds me. Have you heard of this tiny
free program called Arbaro? I came across it a
long time ago, lost it, tried to find it more
recently, Google could not find it, but then I
saw someone bring it up in a forum.

Snatch it up. It's a nice little tool to have
handy on the side for various circumstances.

Oh yeah. What is it? It's a great tree generator
and you can export OBJ files to be used in other software.
They are a little more low poly than what Vue might have,
but it's just good to have around, just in case.
Sadly, you would have to make your own textures for it,
but that's part of the process of modeling anyway.

Chromattix In reply to ShaneNewville [2008-09-08 04:37:08 +0000 UTC]

Oh sweet! thanks for showing me that, since I won't have my personal comp for about a week (answering this through class computers ) I had to write it down so I won't forget lol, But I'll try it when I get the chance. Being low-poly isn't too much of a problem, the previews look good, and I rarely have trees up close anyway (this here is a composition of 6 Vue trees with some Photoshop editing) and I can make my own leaf materials too, I've edited many Vue plants and wound up with about 60 personal ones

Werd. What is Vue mainly used for? Is it similar
to Bryce?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to ShaneNewville [2008-09-08 06:28:25 +0000 UTC]

I've never used Bryce, but from the Bryce renders I've seen here, it's safe to say that Vue is WAY better Here's their homepage [link] if you click "products for artists" you can see the various Vue versions...ranging from the basic "Vue 6 easel" pack (which is cheapest, but has a lot of limitation) all the way up to "Vue 6 Xstream" which is really dear but the best of the Vue versions...most Vue-ers get Vue 6 infinite, but I had to go one step down and Get Vue 6 pro studio This site [link] also shows off many animations made in Vue, just to get you motivated

ShaneNewville In reply to Chromattix [2008-09-08 09:27:05 +0000 UTC]

Oh shoot! That's why I remember seeing it. I read Cinefex
regularaly (magazine with lots interviews with people who
do the effects, animations, directing, etc. for movies).
I saw Vue in it a bunch of times. They use it for the
movies too. I defintely am going to look into it some more.
Actually I think I did go to the site once a long time
ago and it was a short visit once I learned of the price.
It look nothing short of amazing though. [sigh] some
day when I make millions...

Thanks, for this one, I wanted the "cascading bonsai" look like this [link] it's a popular style as it represent the real tree high up on mountains like this, which would be knocked downward by snow, wind and falling rocks...so yeah, I would be pretty sad if I were in that environment too

Glad you liked the icicles, they are small but made a huge difference
