Description Originally set up to create a miniature sun in one capsule, this experiment had neighbouring capsules added to it and eventually became more about the aesthetics of weather phenomenon and likely would be found in places like interactive museums of science and technology. The sun is still the biggest energy user though but outputs enough to run its neighbours, like how the weather works for real

This is my latest work for The Luminarium 's recent exhibit themed "Energy". I kinda wish I had the time to do more with such an interesting an open theme. But I've been preoccupied a lot lately, mostly for good reasons though. Like completely re-doing all my now outdated custom brushes, models etc since I want to revamp all those so I can hopefully work faster on future works. This definitely wasn't fast though, took a few weeks, mostly for modelling everything. Though the render was pretty slow too

Created using Cinema 4D, Vue 7 and Photoshop. People who like this might also like a similar themed artwork I did - Synthetic System

Probably nothing. That or the tornado will get bigger and bigger and kill us all. Guess we'll never know

This is just mind- boggling-ly beautiful!  The time and effort in your art really shows!  Keep it up! We here in drought- stricken California could use the Rain Capsule about now!

Thanks for the compliment. We get droughts a lot here too. Seems many parts of the world would be fighting over the rain capsule. Though when we finally get it - we get too much and it floods

So much epic! If only you'd allowed a bigger preview...I need to stare at all those details! The weather phenomena are beautifully painted but what I love most, I must say, are the simple icons at the bases of the machines. And all that impeccable detail, still. *drools*

Chromattix In reply to Circlejourney [2012-03-31 07:13:14 +0000 UTC]

Lol, yes - to think I spent much more time on the machines themselves than their actual contents (but that was the fun part and the most important ) I'm currently doing something similar but I'm thinking of putting a landscape or a tree inside the machine, still undecided yet, and a long way from being posted here

.....Is it odd that this reminds me of the weather forecast for Michigan? This would explain our weather.... it's all kept in a jar, like these, and then someone takes on and breaks it open. But the guy in charge of breaking them open is a dick and keeps throwing snowy days on my April birthday!

XD Seriously though, this has to be one of the most beautiful concepts I've ever seen. I mean... words are actually failing me at how beautiful I find this! The concept is golden, pure artistry! I know that sounds lame, but that's the only way I can describe it. As others have said, the way each capsule is tailored to the weather inside is amazing. I adore that little wind vane on the tornado one~ ♥

And now, ten minutes later of just staring at this, I know there's no way I can fully express my appreciation for every detail in here, so this general comment will have to do. ^_^ The weather map in the background is perfect! Excellent touch right there, it really gives you a sense of where this is at and how some places *coughMichigancough* get such wacky weather.

The frost on the snowstorm capsule... *drools* I didn't even know it was possible to do this kind of work with Photoshop! Okay yeah, I'll stop blathering. ♥

Chromattix In reply to Razzmatazzy [2012-03-14 02:43:24 +0000 UTC]

Lol, I think these past few months have seen weird weather all over the world. Europe has gotten way more snow than usual, and North America way less. Also, here in Australia - my "Summer" consisted of more rainy days than sunny ones! So the man working in the weather factory is messing with way more than Michigan

That's OK about not being able to describe it, the fact your comment is as long as it is shows you still spent more than just a few seconds looking at it, which is pretty rare in our fast-pace days of viewing art online. It takes a lot to really grab someone for longer than that even with good work

The weather map in the background wasn't based on anywhere in particular, just a general "continent coast" I drew up, it can be almost anywhere you want it to be...as long as it's on the Eastern edge of it The frost on the snow capsule was done as part of the 3D work though, but you could still do that in Photoshop with detailed custom brushes, but I tried to get a lot of it done in 3D first

i like this alot, and its creative at the bottom of the capsules. example tornado has wind contraptions and sun is like a heater, lightning has coils. --good job!!

Chromattix In reply to ANGELi-photography [2012-02-22 05:05:53 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for noticing I almost took the easy way out and put them all in the same "generic" capsule. But the extra work spent customizing the outside of each one to fit the weather inside was really worthwhile in the long run

Something to think about as far as types of civilizations. A type 1 civilization has colonised it's entire planet and moons, a type 2 one has colonised it's entire system even if multiple suns and a type 3 has colonised it's entire galaxy and dwarf galaxies. I wasn't going to put this but here is an expanded recursive description of what type 4 civlizations and beyond be like.

If a civilization becomes so advanced that they start creating dimentionally recessed technology meaning objects or buildings that are bigger on the inside and if they start thoroughly colonising throught their entire domain then it is inevitable that they will start puttong objects inside this dimentionally recessed layer of space of a large portion or all of their colonies are connected. Eventually they will start putting entire planets and systems inside this inner layer of space or collective subspace inside the colonies. Eventually they become so advanced that the space inside their colonies becomes larger than all the lightyears of space that these coloniese straddle. Because they are dimentionally recessed the space inside keeps growing up to a point even though in normal space outside their colonies has not gotten that much larger. Because of all this entire galaxies eventually get placed inside this space so in an average colonised galaxy in normal space there are maybe hundreds of galaxies inside thissecond layer of inner space inside the colonies. This is what a type 4 civilization could be.

I'm not sure of this but it is possible that each new type of civilization is based on soemthing tens of billions of time larger in scales than the last level. Because the normal galaxies in normal space have been so colonised and because galaxies have been placed inside these colonies; even though it doesn't look it from the outside, it there by stands to reason that they would start to thoroughly colonise these inner galaxies and make a third layer of space or a second layer of dimentionally recessed space and place many more galaxies inside these that the galaxies on the outside. Then making a third layer of dimentionally recessed space from the colonisation of the third layer of galaxies these have galaxies inside them that are colonised and so on for tens of billions of layers one inside the other. This is what a type 5 civlization might be.

Take the patturn of recursion of a type 4 and 5 civilizations and expand this to tens of billions of levels and this is what a type 6 civilization might be.

Imagine the 10th type of civilization, type 100 or type tens of billions. Because this is based again on multiples of ten billion then this could be a second layer of civilizations wich could be expanded to another layer of civlvizations and so on.

There could interestingly be tens of billions of civilization layers making an unthinkable number of advancment of civilization.

This was just a thought experiment in recursion but this is possible what types of civilizations could be beyond 3 so anyway thanks.

Sounds like you saw that documentary done by that famous Asian scientist...damn, I can never seem to remember his name though

He said human society is still type zero since the only thing we've done is colonized our own planet, which is something any species could potentially do if they reproduce fast and can travel long distances (bacteria being a great example) But we are close to being 1, all we have to do is build permanent establishments on the moon and maybe other planets. I think each civilization will have varying degrees of difficulty though depending on what their moons and neighbouring planets are like I think expecting anything beyond a 5 is setting the bar too high, there is only so much a species can do in the universe. I mean, once a species has invented and discovered and done everything in the universe - that's about it really, though obviously that hasn't happened year otherwise they would have tried to establish connections with the humans on Earth (unless they have but failed, but I doubt something so advanced would fail at such a remedial task )

I find it impossible to build an area that's larger on the inside than on the outside, it just doesn't sound like it would be physically possible, it's like expecting to fit a bowling ball into a golf hole without stretching or shrinking required. But you dd say something about creating other dimensions, but even that sounds like a long stretch even for advanced aliens. I still think all things in the universe are bound to its laws of physics no matter how great their technology gets. The universe seems infinite, but what can go on in it I say is limited, even if we are still far from those limits
